You know, I really dislike it when yoga instructors tell their students not to "dump" into a pose. Like: don't "dump" into the wrists or the lower back.

Given how toxic fitness culture is, can we just leave aside anything that sounds snobby or chastising? FFS

I say things like (for wrists, for instance), "Squeese your fingers into the mat to transfer weight from the heel of the hand. This helps built forearm strength and wrist stability".

My yoga instruction is a DUMP-FREE ZONE

If you’re looking for cardivascular exercise and massive strenght and mobility gains, consider committing to Varsity Yoga for 2026. These are 7 6-week cohorts (with one week break in between), where we focus on very specific gains and skills.

Will you get impressively strong and bendy? Hell yeah. Will your body feel better every single day? AW YEAH!

Weekly commitment (and following the program during a few of the other days of the week) will change your body and mind—and lower your stress level.

1. Back, hip, and knee strength for hiking, climbing, and fall protection

2. Expanded hip range of motion (internal/external rotation and extension) for stronger squats, smoother running, and recovery from sitting and standing

3. Joint stabilization—especially knees, shoulders, and ankles—for arm and leg balances

4. Neck and upper back conditioning to undo the damage of modern text-neck and shoulder weakness

5. Hamstring & hip flexor mobility for full, supported splits

6. Shoulder strength for confident headstands and handstands

7. Core strength & spinal mobility to support deep, controlled backbends
