Benefis Health System Benefis Health System is a not-for-profit health system located in Montana. Six years later, a Methodist group opened Deaconess Hospital.

For more than 130 years, Benefis Health System has been a trusted provider of care for northcentral Montana, and we’ve made it our mission to provide excellent care for all, healing body, mind, and spirit. Our legacy began in 1892 when five Catholic Sisters opened the Columbus Hospital in Great Falls. The two hospitals merged in 1996 under the new Benefis name, derived using Latin root words “bene” (meaning good) and “fis” (faith). And we have continued to grow throughout the region, ensuring we are able to bring our programs and services to more Montanans. Benefis Health System now serves about 230,000 residents in a vast 14-county region. We are located on three campuses in Great Falls, in Montana’s Capital City of Helena, and in the rural towns of Choteau and Fort Benton. Benefis has more than 500 beds, including long-term and hospice care, and employs more than 300 physicians. We are consistently ranked among America’s top hospitals by the nation’s leading healthcare ratings organizations for a range of services, including cancer care, joint replacement, stroke treatment, wound care, and home health. We are honored to call this part of Montana home, and we never forget that the best care is personal. That’s why we treat each patient as we would a family member or friend. It started with a vision — brought to life by the talented team at Image Mill, who helped install our new Baby Arrival Wall in the Benefis Birth Center. It continues with our incredible Benefis Labor and Delivery team, who support families every step of the way. And it ends with the very reason this wall was created - to welcome new life into the world. And we’re thrilled to celebrate the arrival of this sweet newborn and their proud parents, Katie and Brayden Ginnaty. The Ginnatys have a unique connection to Benefis, as Katie is the Results coordinator, and Brayden is a member of the Benefis Foundation Board. That makes this milestone even more special as they welcomed their first baby here!

Welcome Mitchell Rohrback, MD, to Benefis Health System!

Dr. Rohrback is a fellowship-trained orthopedic trauma surgeon who specializes in full-spectrum trauma care, including operative and nonoperative treatment of fractures of the pelvis, extremities, and joints. His longtime interest in science led him to explore a career in medicine at a young age when he job shadowed two Benefis orthopedic surgeons. He developed a drive to treat patients’ injuries in a specialized and personalized way.

“It’s never a good time to be injured,” he says. “I work with my patients to help them get back to what they need and want to do.” A graduate of C.M. Russell High School and Montana State University, Dr. Rohrback is thrilled to return home to Great Falls. His wife, who grew up in Sidney, is also a physician. In his free time, Dr. Rohrback values time with his family. He also enjoys fishing and hunting.

Welcome Hana Paladichuk, MD!

Dr. Paladichuk is a dermatologist who treats patients with a wide range of skin conditions, including complex cases. She also specializes in oncodermatology, which focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of skin conditions that develop in relation to cancer treatments, helping patients manage skin toxicities from chemotherapy and immunotherapy so they can continue their cancer treatments.

She was driven to become a physician at a very early age. Her first job was at a nursing home, where she drew inspiration from the impact physicians had on their patients’ lives. “Excellent patient care starts with how you treat each person who comes to you for care,” she says. “I try to take extra time with the patients who need a more comprehensive explanation of their
case and treatment options.”

Dr. Paladichuk and her husband, who is also a Benefis physician, are thrilled to return to their home state. Spending time with family is important to her. She also enjoys hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities in her free time.

🎉 🚁Today we celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the first flight by Mercy Flight.

Jan. 16, 1983, ushered in a new era of life-saving work. For newborns in distress in rural hospitals, for travelers in car wrecks, for injured wilderness explorers, for farmers and ranchers wounded on the job, and for so many more Montanans and visitors, Mercy Flight has been a critical element of survival.

If you have a story of Mercy Flight coming to the rescue for you or your family, we would be honored if you shared it in the comments below.

Babies should always sleep on a firm, flat surface. Inclined sleepers and propped mattresses can increase the risk of suffocation and should be avoided.
A crib, bassinet, or portable play yard with a firm mattress is the safest choice.

Our Story

Benefis Health System has been providing quality healthcare to the residents of Northcentral Montana for more than 125 years. In 1892, just three years after Montana became a state, Columbus Hospital was founded in Great Falls by five Catholic Sisters. Shortly after, the call to establish a Protestant hospital was answered when Deaconess Hospital opened in 1898.

Throughout the next century, these two founding hospitals that later became Benefis experienced tremendous growth. They went from providing the very basic necessities to expanding physical facilities multiple times in order to accommodate rapid medical advances.

In 1996, these two pioneering institutions merged. Since then, Benefis has flourished to become what it is now—a comprehensive health system that is truly world-class.

Through it all, Benefis and its predecessors have remained true to their core mission of providing excellent care to our vast region of Montana.
