This month's Full Moon Lunar eclipse will be perfecting at 5:34am CST March 3rd in constellation Leo, aligned with fixed star Zosma. In ancient Sumerian and Babylonian astronomy Leo was referred to as the Great Lion or Exalted Lion, & has always been associated with supreme strength, power, and kingship. Before the Sun was assigned rulership over Leo, Mars (Nergal, God of War) had an association as he was often depicted with a lion's head or mane. Leo became the Lion that stood watch over the gate of the underworld in Cancer, where Nergal lives with his consort Erskigal.
Venus (Inanna) had also been associated with Leo as she was referred to as the “Lioness of Heaven” and “Lady of Battle”. The lion was both her throne and terrifying battle mount as she’s a warrior goddess by nature- holy, righteous, protective, and mighty. Constellation Leo is layered in meaning connected to passion, creativity, sexual prowess, and lots of intensity.
The New Moon Solar Eclipse took place on the 2nd degree of Aquarius, in opposition to the South Node, not at all within orb of North Node, symbolizing loss without immediate perspective or direction. As Mars came into contact to the exact degree of this New Moon seeding, under the tense influence of Uranus in Ta**us, parts of the world stage became explosive and volatile. We witnessed the forced removal of a longstanding leader and continued exchange of blows between feuding countries. South Node, Moon, and Zosma bring up themes of victimhood, shedding old identities, & leaving behind ego driven story lines.
Aquarius and Leo are often referred to as the “axis of humanity”, & with this cycle we could collectively see ourselves losing our individual rights under the guise of “for the greater good”. This energy could look like deep emotional upheaval, moving beyond trauma, as well as drastic challenges and changes to those in higher authority roles. Keep a close eye on Mercury and Mars as both ambush the North Node from different directions around March 7-9th.
Venus in Pisces evokes empathy, compassion, and a desire to heal, help or comfort. She softens her stance, prioritizes others, and may sacrifice personal needs for the sake of unity or charity. Mercury’s retrograde motion back into Aquarius in trine with Jupiter in Gemini can bring misunderstandings and mental overload. Jupiter moves out of its long retrograde cycle March 10th-11th. Expect things to move quickly and dramatically as the Moon & Sun meet again March 18th in Pisces for the next New Moon conjoining Saturn & Neptune.
