Natalie Roufs:
Arlington, MN
Recipient: 2007-2009
Our first annual Raise the Rouf event was held in September 2007 to raise funds to assist Natalie Roufs in her fight against breast cancer. Throughout her 26 years of life, friends and family have been very important to Natalie; she has loyally helped them through times of trouble and shared many moments of happiness. Those who loved her have stepped up to repay many of her kindnesses by supporting her event for over the past 5 years. Natalie unfortunately lost her battle with cancer after a 2 1/2 year fight on August 22, 2009.

In October of 2008 Gene R. Briest was diagnosed with colon cancer. Gene went through chemo and radiation in December of 2008 and finished in January of 2009. After surgery in March of 2009 he had some complications but he was able to begin chemo therapy in May 2009 and finished his second round in October of 2009. In April 2010 surgeons found several new tumors in his lungs and they decided to do a biopsy in May 2010. With several other set back he was no longer to work and so in 2011 Angie Briest nominated her husband for FCHS funds and we were proud to be able to donate to him. Gene unfortunately lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, February 23, 2012. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. We are proud we were able to work with his wife during this difficult time and our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Elverne Jacobus
LeSueur, MN
Recipient: 2012
At the end of the summer in 2011 Elvene was not feeling well and his skin had a yellow tint to it. His wife Avis suggested he go to the doctor to check things out. After several test the doctor informed Elverne he had pancreatic cancer and he couldn't believe it. The oncologist plan was to shrink the tumor with chemo treatments so they could then operate to remove it. Currently the cancer has now metastasized to hi lungs and liver. He is currently on his second round of treatment and is unable to work. His good friends Deb and Glen Gieseke nominated Elverne for FCHS funds. We are thrilled we are able to assist him and his family through this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with him during his fight!
