Friends Care - Hearts Share, Inc

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce or further explain a local non-profit organization of which everyone may not be aware of. sponsors the benefit ‘Raise The Rouf’ which raises money to follow our mission statement: support our local community members coping with over-bearing medical expenses due to a life-threatening illness by providing moral an

d financial support. Our event bears the name of our first recipient, Natalie Roufs, who lost her battle with breast cancer on August 22nd, 2009. There are currently 4 active board members: myself, Rebecca Cameron (President), Afton Mackenthun (Vice-President), Joan Foley (Treasurer) and Rachel Gieseke (Secretary). We also have two key volunteers that are assisting in this year’s benefit; Sara Hilgers (music coordinator/donation coordinator), Jeanette Steeves (5K coordinator), Josh Grochow & Stephanie Schultz (softball coordinators). We acknowledge how much of our success is due to all the volunteers we have had over the past five years, and words cannot express our gratitude for all they have done. They allow us to operate with minimal expenses which allow us to utilize over 90% of our funds to help people. FCHS was established June of 2007 and is embarking on a fifth season to raise funds to help our local community members cope with high medical expenses. We are one of the first organization operating as a non-profit in our local community that addresses this crucial need during this continuing era of ever-increasing medical costs. We hope to relieve financial stress, such as bankruptcy, resulting from fighting a long-term illness. Our organization is funded 100% by public donations. We greatly appreciate all the public support we've received and we wouldn't be here without it, thanks! Rebecca Cameron

Recipient: 2007-2009

Our first annual Raise the Rouf event was held in September 2007 to raise funds to assist Natalie Roufs in her fight against breast cancer. Throughout her 26 years of life, friends and family have been very important to Natalie; she has loyally helped them through times of trouble and shared many moments of happiness. Those who loved her have stepped up to repay many of her kindnesses by supporting her event for over the past 5 years. Natalie unfortunately lost her battle with cancer after a 2 1/2 year fight on August 22, 2009.

Elverne Jacobus
LeSueur, MN

Recipient: 2012

At the end of the summer in 2011 Elvene was not feeling well and his skin had a yellow tint to it. His wife Avis suggested he go to the doctor to check things out. After several test the doctor informed Elverne he had pancreatic cancer and he couldn't believe it. The oncologist plan was to shrink the tumor with chemo treatments so they could then operate to remove it. Currently the cancer has now metastasized to hi lungs and liver. He is currently on his second round of treatment and is unable to work. His good friends Deb and Glen Gieseke nominated Elverne for FCHS funds. We are thrilled we are able to assist him and his family through this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with him during his fight!
