Position Point Pressing Facts

Position Point Pressing Facts

Nope, those points aren't based on reflexology—they're based on myofascial meridians. When you do position point pressing when practicing the MELT foot treatment, you're:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1) helping the brain figure the position of the joints in your body⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2) stimulating those myofascial meridians⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3) affecting way more than just your feet⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here's how the method's creator, Sue Hitzmann, put it: The position point pressing technique mobilizes the joints of the feet but also stimulates the myofascial meridians that create seamless connection from head to toes and fingers. When you MELT, you stimulate the connective tissue cells (not to mention your muscles and bones) but you also wake up the aspects of your nervous system that allow you to sense and feel your body while quieting down the stress levels. Many people are surprised how tender their hands and feet are, which is a sign of autopilot inefficiency and cellular dehydration. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you have only a few minutes in a day for some selfcare, the foot treatment is so important and can make such transformational changes that it's the one you should do.

Day #1 of Katy's Advent Twist. Give it a try!

Day #1 of Katy's Advent Twist. Give it a try!

Exercise Advent, Day 1: “Twist Proof Ankles” Calf Elevators

Ankles, like elevators, should be able to move the body straight up and down without traveling side to side or rotating as they do so. Many have done calf raises before, but calf elevators are different—the form of this move (stable ankles) is what makes sure you’re not strengthening any wobbly ankle movement, if that makes sense. Nice thing about this move is it is designed to translate to walking. Strengthen your ankle stabilizing skills in a focused exercise and then take your newfound plantarflexing strength and stability TO GO.

1. Stand with feet forward, ankles hip-width apart.

2. Slowly lift and lower the heels keeping your ankles centered (don’t let them drop outward or inward or twist) and moving straight up and down.

Don’t overly thrust the pelvis to help you get up and toes should be lift-able throughout the entire exercise (weight ends up on the front of the FOOT, not the toes). How many times can you do this, slowly and with joint stability, before getting tired?

P.S. Day 1-5 are going to put your legs through a few purposeful twists and turns that work together as a group of moves and will help with your gait. Make sure to try them as a set!

Massage and MELT those scars no matter how old they are!

Massage and MELT those scars no matter how old they are!

Cesarean sections are one of the most common causes of built-up scar tissue and back pain in postpartum women.

If you see a skilled manual therapist, they will often work on mobilizing the scar tissue for some time to restore the sliding surfaces of the skin and connective tissue underneath.

Mobilizing scar tissue is similar to restoring the fluid into a dry sponge. You have to work the fluid out of all the cells of the sponge to plump it up and open all the nooks and crannies.

"Skin rolling" is a technique where you take the tissue above the scar, pull the fatty layer up, grasp the roll of tissue with your thumb and fingers, and roll towards the scar.

MELT moves such as the 3D Breathe Breakdown, 3D Breath, Rebalance Sequence, Lower Body Length (especially the tuck and tilt), and Rib Side Bend are great to sustain the changes.

Skin rolling is ideal for hysterectomy scars also!

Happy MELTing (and skin rolling!)

Have you MELTed your hands today?

Have you MELTed your hands today?

Our hands are the gateway to our world. We use them constantly to physically manipulate the environment, from picking up a big box to threading a needle.

Our fingertips contain some of the densest areas of nerve endings on the human body and serve as the richest source of tactile feedback.

The myofascial sleeve envelops the full spectrum of the fingers and hands all the way to the skull, cervical and thoracic spine, and the rib cage.

On a neurofascial level, when the myofascial sleeve becomes dehydrated, overworked, or damaged, the body will compensate by attempting to "slacken" the sleeve before the motor function of the hands is hindered.

Rather than lose our ability to move our fingers or lose our grip strength, the body will bring the head carriage forward, the shoulder girdle will round and the upper back will become kyphotic well before the hands become unusable.

By treating your hands with the MELT Hand Treatments, we can indirectly help alleviate tension in the neck and upper back!

So now we have to ask...have you MELTed your hands today?

Indirect before direct...you'll feel better in the long run.
