Each year, ASQ Section 1109 present an award to an officer whose dedication to the section is exemplary. Last December, ASQ Section 1109 have chosen Stephanie Riggan to receive the Service Award for 2022.
Stephanie is the current Vice-Chair for Section 1109 and has been an ASQ member since 2020. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutritional Sciences from Ohio University, and a Master’s Degree in Food Science and Technology from UGA. Stephanie also obtained her CQT and CQA certifications through ASQ. Her hobbies include reading, and watching documentaries when she has time after running after her toddler. She also works at a winery on weekends.
Stephanie’s goals as the Vice – Chair for ASQ Section 1109 are: 1) to help the section increase member engagement; 2) explore ways for the section to be more visible in the professional community; and 3) establish strong relationship with local schools.

Happy New Year! To start the year, ASQ Section 1109 will be having two great speakers for all Quality Professionals! On Tuesday, January 10th, Alan Shelton and Shawn Burton will share their knowledges to anybody who is interested to join our section.

Alan Shelton, Founder/Executive Director of WS Mixxer, will provide an overview of activities and services in the organization.

Burton, Director of QC Compliance and Accreditation at Herbalife Nutrition, will discuss how the organization has partnered with My Green Lab to integrate ESG initiatives into the World of Quality.

ASQ Section 1109 will have the year-end meeting virtually! Please mark your calendar, December 13th at 5:30PM, for another learning session with Quality Professionals.

For this month's meeting, ASQ Section 1109 has invited Mr. Gerrit Potgieter to talk more about Customer Experience Management. The focus of the tutorial is to introduce the audience to the Customer Experience concepts and tools, with reference to how this is applied in the context of a repair and service organization.

Gerrit is currently the Director of Customer Support for Volvo Trucks. He has a broad background in Quality and Engineering:
• Bachelor of Commerce, University of South Africa / Mechanical Engineering
Cape Technikon.
• ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer / Quality Manager / SSGB
• 35+ years experience in Quality Assurance / Manufacturing / Customer
experience.
• Industries: Transportation- Railways/ Shipbuilding / Aerospace / Automotive /
Truck Manufacture. Professional Services.
• 1st ISO 9001:1987 certification in Cape Town South Africa.
• 10 Years as Registrar Auditor for ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 9001.
• 15+ years with Volvo / Mack trucks as Quality Systems Director.
• Last 5+ Years working with improving service customer experience.
• Member of ASQ since 2007

Our section is excited to announce that we will be having our first HYBRID MEETING tomorrow, November 8th! Since the pandemic, it is the first time to see members face – to – face! Registration will start at 5:15pm at Volvo Truck Communication Center and virtual part will start 6:30pm. Please send us a message if you would like to attend the face – to – face meeting and we will send you the link to registration.
For tomorrow’s meeting, our speaker is Lance Harding. Lance Harding just joined SmartyPants Vitamins (part of the Unilever Health & Wellness Collective) as their Vice President for Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs. He is the current Chair Elect for the Food, Drug & Cosmetic Division of the American Society for Quality. He previously worked for Herbalife, Guthy-Renker, Allergan & Pfizer supporting quality, regulatory, and product development for foods, supplements, drugs and cosmetics. He is a registered pharmacist with an MBA, US Regulatory Affairs Certified (RAC) from RAPS, Lead Instructor for Preventive Controls for Human Food & Foreign Supplier Verification Programs from FSPCA, Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Food Safety & Quality Auditor (CFSQA) & Certified Pharmaceutical GMP Professional (CPGP) from ASQ.
