When Greta turned 50, she went in for her routine annual physical. Her physician, Dr. Kenneson, ordered a Cologuard test—a non-invasive screening tool for colorectal cancer. Despite being a nurse herself and working in a primary care office, Greta let the test sit on her counter until it expired. After some encouragement from coworkers, she received another test in the mail. A few months later, on Mother’s Day 2023, she finally decided to complete and submit it.

Days later, Greta received a positive result. Though she had no symptoms and wasn’t especially worried, the positive test led to a colonoscopy performed by Dr. Walters at Benbrook GI. The findings were serious.

Independence Health System is hosting a community education and health screening event, Speaking from the Heart: Advances in Cardiovascular and Lung Care, funded by the RK Mellon Family Foundation. The event will take place September 25, 2025, at Westmoreland Mall and includes free health screenings and educational sessions presented by Independence Health System providers to educate community members about the latest information in heart, lung, and vascular care.

Board-certified in internal , echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology, Dr. Woiewodski will provide comprehensive cardiovascular care to Westmoreland County residents at The Square at in North Huntingdon and at Westmoreland Hospital Cardiology Services in .

Independence Health System (IHS) today announced the addition of Renee Davis, DO, to the General Surgery team at The Square at Latrobe and Latrobe Hospital. Prior to assuming her new role, Dr. Davis served as a physician assistant at Butler Memorial Hospital for two years before pursuing her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.

“I am honored to join Independence Health System. Latrobe Hospital has a strong tradition of serving the , and I look forward to continuing that mission by providing high-quality surgical care close to home,” said Dr. Davis. “I am pleased to be part of a that shares my focus on patient-centered care — recognizing each individual’s needs, values and goals.
