Quite literally the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I’ve never ran a marathon, let alone an ultra, heck I never ran over 14 miles before training for this 😅.
The only goal going into the day was to finish, I had no idea what to expect and joked throughout training that the motto was “naive confidence.” Trusted the process and training that put together, trusted the fueling plan that put together.
About 7 miles in my hip started acting up(again), only got worse until mile 20, and had to use my poles essentially like crutches. I turned to Andy and said I’ve got a lot of thoughts and DNFing is one of them. I couldn’t go uphill without my hip screaming and couldn’t go downhill without my knee talking back. Was able to get it together at the mile 22 aid station with a ome bacon quesadillas and soda to give us the push to finish the thing. Currently can’t lift my left leg, but would probably do it again, or whatever race Andy convinces me to do again 😂. Couldn’t do it without the squad and support crew! Big shout out to for an awesome event, great aid stations, and a well marked course!
Learned a lot about myself, trail running, and wool socks(and the need of them)
