Obituary for F. L. Lane, Sr.

F. L. Lane, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach, and community servant, was born on August 18, 1939, to the parentage of Fawn and Lola Lane in Ben Franklin, Texas. He went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 21, 2026.

F. L. moved to Greenville, Texas, in 1949, where he would spend the majority of his life making a lasting impact on the community. A gifted athlete, he excelled in baseball, football, and basketball, and graduated from Carver High School.

Beginning at the age of 19, F. L. devoted himself to coaching and mentoring young men in the Greenville community. Over the years, many of those he coached proudly continued to refer to him as “Coach,” whether in stores, on the street, or at high school football games—an enduring testament to the influence he had on countless lives.

Known for his strong work ethic, F. L. often held two and even three jobs at a time. He worked as a cattle rancher, owned and operated a Mobil Service Station, and enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the defense and aerospace industry. He was employed by LTV, E‑Systems, Raytheon, and L‑3, beginning in 1965 and retiring in 1998.

His dedication did not go unnoticed. In 1992, he was honored at an Appreciation Banquet for Continued Process Improvement, and in 1993, he was recognized as a Top 100 E‑Teamer at a Tribute to Excellence Awards Banquet.

On March 15, 1986, F. L. married the love of his life, Roselyn Davis Lane. A man of deep and abiding faith, he loved the Lord and never missed an opportunity to share His word—whether in stores, doctors’ offices, or wherever he encountered others. He was a faithful member of Eastside Church of Christ since the 1950s, often seated on the front pew and always willing to help in any way needed.

F. L. continued ranching well into his later years, finally giving up his cattle—affectionately referred to as “his girls”—in 2023.

F. L. Lane, Sr. is survived by his wife of 40 years, Roselyn Lane; his three sons and three daughters: Carlos Barrett, Ira LaRay Lane, F. L. Lane, Jr., Sharon Clark, Jeannie Narine Lane, and Lisa Danielle Lane; his sister, Jimmie Marie Kyle; his grandchildren, Ira Jonte, Iman Jonae, and Tara Lane Davis Woodhall (Hunter); his great‑grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fawn and Lola Lane; his brothers, Allen Lane, Joseph Ray Lane, and Lawrence Lane; and his sister, Eloise Lane Moton.

Public Viewing:

Public viewing for F. L. Lane, Sr. will be held on Monday, March 2, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Creekside Church of Christ,

6113 Jack Finney Boulevard, Greenville, TX 75402.
