Congratulations to our 2025 SCHBC Leadership Fellows!

On November 12, we gathered in Columbia for our Fellowship Graduation Luncheon—an inspiring afternoon celebrating this year’s cohort and their leadership in strengthening workplace wellbeing across South Carolina.

A special thank-you to Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann for joining us and offering such a warm welcome. We’re grateful for your support of this work.

Over the past 10 months, fellows from a wide range of sectors came together to learn, share ideas, support one another, and deepen their commitment to creating healthier, more connected workplaces. Their reflections at the luncheon were thoughtful, honest, and a reminder of why this program matters.

Congratulations to our 2025 Fellows:

• April Slinkard – City of Charleston
• Bree Slauscious – Hinge Health
• Brian Head – Mount Pleasant Waterworks
• Christa Porth – Landmark Construction
• Dave D’Alessio – Spero Financial
• Jodiannah Rish Peruski – JTEKT North America
• Joy Drago – Novant Health
• Kristin Randolph – Access Healthcare
• Tara Branham – TM Floyd
• Will Escoe – The Onyx Group | Tribe513
• Zoe Watkins – South Carolina Federal Credit Union

We’re also grateful for our SCHBC leadership team—Susan Johnson, Mike Harris, Caitlin Townsend, and Kaitlin DaPore—for guiding this program and supporting our fellows throughout the year.

And a heartfelt thank-you to our sponsors— BlueShield of South Carolina, Assured Partners, Proactive MD, and South Carolina Federal Credit Union—for your partnership and ongoing commitment to advancing workforce wellbeing across the state.

We’re proud of each of our 2025 Fellows and can’t wait to see what you carry forward from this experience.

🌟 SCHBC Fellowship Spotlight 🌟

Meet Bree Slauscius, a dedicated member of the 2025 SCHBC Fellowship cohort and a passionate leader at Hinge Health!

Q: What inspired you to join the SCHBC Fellowship, and what impact do you hope to make in your organization?

A: I was inspired to join the SCHBC Fellowship to deepen my expertise in workplace wellness and connect with like-minded professionals who are passionate about creating healthier work environments. My goal is to bring innovative and strategic wellness initiatives to my organization that not only enhance employee well-being but also contribute to a more engaged and productive workforce.

Q: What’s one workplace wellness initiative or strategy you’re passionate about, and why?

A: I’m passionate about holistic wellness programs that address not just physical health, but also mental, emotional, and social well-being. One initiative I strongly advocate for is integrating mindfulness and stress management practices into the workplace. When employees have the tools to manage stress effectively, they can perform at their best, foster positive work relationships, and contribute to a thriving company culture.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you or a personal wellness habit that keeps you energized?

A: A fun fact about me is that I once traveled to 39 states in one year! Exploring new places keeps me energized and inspired. As for a personal wellness habit, I prioritize daily movement—whether it’s a workout, a walk in nature, or stretching between meetings. Staying active helps me maintain focus and brings a sense of balance to my day.

🌟 SCHBC Fellowship Spotlight 🌟

Meet Kristin Randolph, a dedicated member of the 2025 SCHBC Fellowship cohort and a passionate leader at Access Healthcare!

Q: What inspired you to join the SCHBC Fellowship, and what impact do you hope to make in your organization?

A: My inspiration to join SCHBC fellowship is really connected to how I felt after previous seminars I've attended. I always left those sessions feeling refocused and realigned with my own wellbeing and health goals. Then, I thought well my team deserves this feeling of "I can do hard things." I felt compelled to create a space for my team to prioritize their own wellness and healthcare goals. What better place to start this journey than where we spend most of our days - at work. The impact I want to have on my team is that we all can do hard things.

Q: What’s one workplace wellness initiative or strategy you’re passionate about, and why?

A: A workplace wellness initiative I'm passionate about is helping team members identify what does wellness looks like to them and creating a space to pursue those goals. So often we compare areas of our lives to our peers, colleagues and family. I want to help my team find true joy in prioritizing their wellness. I know how it is to get in the slump of mundane adulthood, I’m guilty of it. The freedom, joy and power I feel taking my health seriously and prioritizing exercise is a gift that keeps on giving.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you or a personal wellness habit that keeps you energized?

A: My fun fact would be how I’m a parking legend at Access Healthcare that's in the heart of Downtown Charleston. Besides that, my habit or fact is relatively boring. I can't talk about my habit that keeps me energized without my two favorite sayings that have changed my way of thinking for the better. “Live like no one else, to live like no one else,” is the saying that helps me go to the gym after working 8 hours, taking my daughter to piano and the looming responsibility of cooking dinner once I arrive home. That saying motivates me to go for a quick run on my lunch break for a mental reset. I feel better about opting for a healthier lunch vs the delicious greasy burger at a spot close to the job. The journey to creating healthy habits may be different than what everyone is doing around you and that's ok. “It's not about you,” would be my second quote that helps me be mindful. “It isn't all about me". My mental wellness reflects my physical wellness.

🌟 SCHBC Fellowship Spotlight 🌟

Meet April Slinkard, a dedicated member of the 2025 SCHBC Fellowship cohort and a passionate leader at the City of Charleston!

Q: What inspired you to join the SCHBC Fellowship, and what impact do you hope to make in your organization?

A: As the Wellness Programs Manager for the City of Charleston and a registered nurse, I am passionate about helping people live healthier lives through education, encouragement, and support. The SCHBC provides a wonderful opportunity to learn from and collaborate with other wellness professionals in my area. I hope to use the connections and exchange of ideas possible through the Fellowship Program to promote a culture of wellness for all City of Charleston team members.

Q: What’s one workplace wellness initiative or strategy you’re passionate about, and why?

A: I am passionate about helping people identify and make small changes that are sustainable. I believe when people are successful in making the small changes at first, they are more confident as they begin to tackle larger lifestyle goals. Changes that are “all or nothing” are not easy to maintain and people are often discouraged by the results.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you or a personal wellness habit that keeps you energized?

A: Prior to becoming a nurse (in my forties), I worked in the manufacturing industry. The most interesting job I had was as a welding supervisor for a local corporation. Unfortunately, I do not know how to weld and spent more time worrying about my team members health and wellbeing than I did about the production numbers (which caused my boss significant angst). This experience is what led me to nursing.
