I would love to see this happen in Gunners honor. A way to give back to the veterans and people with disabilities and to the community. I miss Gunner so much but it’s been a long time and I don’t think anyone’s going to give him back. The best we can do is turn a sad situation into something amazing. We’re trying to find land to make this happen so please pray for that. And please pray that whoever has Gunner is letting him sleep on a pillow with a heated blanket like he did at home. And please know how missed he is.

🚨 Rains County — We Need Your Help. 🚨
What started as a search for my daughter’s service dog, Gunner, has turned into something much bigger than I ever imagined. My friend Hollie, a licensed dog trainer and I, have set out on a mission that’s far greater than our love for animals.
I’ve seen firsthand the overwhelming number of strays, dumped dogs, lack of pet owner accountability and animals in need across our county… and I refuse to just sit back and do nothing. I’m not trying to be the “new girl” that comes here to shake things up, but I am one determined woman and I believe in myself.
I have a REAL plan. A REAL vision. A REAL solution. I’m just not a politician.
Gunner’s Mission & Pet Sanctuary isn’t just a rescue — it’s (at least) a 10-acre working sanctuary focused on:
🐾 Rescue & rehabilitation
🐾 Adoption & responsible placement
🐾 Veterinary support & recovery
🐾 Search & rescue dog training
🐾 Community education & involvement
But here’s the truth…
👉 I need access to land to make this happen.
Whether it’s:
•Donated acreage (possibly a tax write off)
•A partnership with a landowner
•Or someone willing to sell at a reasonable price (active duty salary is on Google, we’re not rich)
This mission cannot move forward without land…
I’ve already filed for the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization status, but I need help.
‼️ WHY THIS MATTERS FOR RAINS COUNTY?
This isn’t just about dogs.
This is about protecting OUR community.
For Ranchers & Farmers:
•Fewer stray dogs harassing livestock
•Reduced loss of animals and property damage
•A place to call when animals are dumped instead of left on your land
•Potential for trained working dogs that can assist with property protection
For Families & City Residents:
•Safer neighborhoods (less roaming/aggressive dogs)
•Lower risk of bites and attacks
•Humane solutions instead of suffering animals
•A place to adopt well-trained, vetted dogs
For the Entire County:
•Reduces burden on the Sheriff’s office (which is already overwhelmed)
•Creates a structured, organized response to the stray crisis
•Brings something completely unique to Texas — a sanctuary that combines rescue and search & rescue training
•Opens doors for community involvement, volunteering, and education
•Builds something we can ALL be proud of
🇺🇸 WHY I’M DOING THIS
We are an active duty military family, new to Rains County… and we didn’t come here expecting to take on something like this. But I am a total mama bear and when something happens that directly affects one of my kids, like my daughter losing her service dog, it pushes me to a new level. And with my training from the Military, once I see the problem — I can’t unsee it. This is greater than the loss my family has suffered.
And once you realize you CAN be part of the solution… you step up. That’s why my husband and I joined the Army 20 years ago.
This is not about politics.
This is not about attention.
This is about making a real, lasting difference.
