A great guideline

We wrapped up the first Midwifery Round Table with 24 service directors - from seasoned to new leaders.

👉The session last night quickly focused on recruitment, retention and NEED for Midwives. Many of the service directors have been searching for applicants with frustratingly low applicant rates. And, many were invested in working with new graduates.

As we talked about tensions around employer/employee work expectations, onboarding, salary, benefits and work place climate they shared successes and challenges eg hiring a new grad only to depart in less than one year.

The infographic below is designed for Midwives Seeking Employment. To encourage an approach to employment opportunities with transparency, inquiry and self-exploration of your professional/personal wants and needs.

💥Across the US, there is a high demand for Midwives, a moment in history rarely seen in the past 40 years.

I am URGING those looking for jobs to think beyond the salary. And not to take a job just to have a job.

Hopeful these pearls might help!

Sometimes plans don’t go the way we’d expect. ✨ This sweet family welcomed their sweet little one by Caesarean section because she had other ideas, wanted to stay breech. Such a joy to provide care, help navigate big decisions, welcome little ones they way the family feels comfortable with. So proud of this family, all their hard work, how well they’re caring for their little lady.

Beautiful image and words by Holding Life Still Photography

“This is always my very favorite moment of a birth to photograph. That moment when you hold your baby in your arms for the first time. The love. The joy. The pride. The relief. The exhaustion. The awe. Every emotion heightened and real and raw and beautiful. It's one of the very truest forms of love I have the honor of holding still.”

The birth roar. One of the most powerful things to witness.

Usually seconds later this warrior of a women is gently holding a wet, seemingly helpless little one. She nurtures it, she sustains it, her hormones and emotions help them develop. She coddles them, she trains, teaches, and loves.

The powerful roar. The human that is under the max about of pain a human can go through, they go through it and then switch over to being the caregiver.

As a midwife I’ve witnessed women go through crazy long labors, wonky fetal positions, massive hemorrhages, near death experiences for some labors (in hospital) will come back or catch a glimpse of them tenderly holding the little one that they went through all of it for- it’s one of the most intense loves.

So human.

“Now and then in life, love catches you unawares, illuminating the dark corners of your mind, and filling them with radiance. Once in awhile you are faced with a beauty and a joy that takes your soul, all unprepared, by assault.” Call the Midwife
