The eyes aren’t just for seeing. They’re directly connected to the brain, the spine, the fascia, and even our emotional state. If you’ve been staring at a screen or holding tension in your face, your eyes might be doing more work than you realize. Tight eyes often signal a body stuck in alert mode. The muscles around the eyes contract when we’re bracing, scanning, overthinking. And that tension can ripple down through the jaw, neck, shoulders—all the way to the feet.
Hi, I’m Janna —a licensed massage therapist based in the Greenville area.
I specialize in working with the body’s connective tissue (fascia) to gently release tension, support healing, and restore natural movement.
Here’s a quick hands-on practice to relax eye tension I recommend to my clients :
1. Warm your palms
Rub your hands together for 10–15 seconds until they feel warm.
2. Gently cup your eyes
Close your eyes and place your warm palms over them—no pressure, just a soft cover. Your fingers can rest gently on your forehead.
3. Breathe slow and steady
Take three slow breaths. Feel the warmth from your hands melt into the muscles around your eyes.
4. Feel your shoulders drop
Let your elbows rest on a table or your chest. As you breathe, notice your shoulders and jaw begin to relax.
5. Remove hands slowly
When you’re ready, slide your hands away. Blink slowly. Notice how your face feels softer.
This simple touch helps relax the muscles around your eyes and signals your nervous system: “It’s okay to rest.”
Sometimes the best reset is already in your hands.
