Here are some tips for helping your friend, collegue, or family member through a su***de loss.
-Talk to them about the person who died in the same way you would about someone who died from any type of death.
-Allow them to talk freely. They may need to tell their story over and over again.
-Don't try to provide answers to unanswerable questions. "I don't know" is preferable than trying to guess.
-Avoid using common phrases such as "committed su***de" since "commit" unintentionally communicates sin or crimes. Instead use "died by su***de" or "ended his/her/their life".

The Keep Them Safe step is really about showing support for someone during the times when they have thoughts of su***de by putting time and distance between the person and their chosen method, especially methods that have shown higher lethality (like fi****ms and medications).
