Spring break is just around the corner and many people travel out of state. It is really good to make sure your home is prepared for your absence.

Here are some helpful tips for you as you prepare for time away:

Check for Leaks – Inspect pipes, faucets, and under sinks for any signs of leaks or moisture. Tighten any loose connections or call a plumber to fix small issues before they become big problems. You don't want to get a call from a neighbor about water pouring out of your front door.

Turn Off the Water Supply – If you’re going to be gone for an extended time, consider turning off your water supply at the main valve to prevent any potential leaks from causing major damage.

Clear Gutters & Downspouts – Yes, it requires more work but if it rains heavily while you're away, you could end up with bigger issues. Make sure gutters and downspouts are clear of leaves and debris to prevent water backups and possible flooding.

Inspect the Roof – Look for any loose shingles or signs of damage. A small issue can lead to big water problems if not addressed before you leave.

Set Your Thermostat to a Safe Temperature – Extreme temperatures can lead to frozen pipes in the winter or excessive heat in the summer that could damage appliances. Set your thermostat to a consistent, safe temperature. Most thermostats are 'smart' so you can even adjust it while away.

Inspect Appliances for Leaks – Check your dishwasher, washing machine, and refrigerator for any potential leaks. Tighten hoses or replace any worn-out seals.
Drain Outdoor Sprinklers & Hoses

Look for Cracks in Walls or Windows– Small cracks can lead to bigger issues if left unattended. Seal any gaps or cracks you find around windows or exterior walls.
Secure Your HVAC System 🌬️ – Make sure your HVAC system is running efficiently and change the air filter if needed to prevent breakdowns during your absence.

In our industry, we want to use reliable, dependable, honest, and hard-working businesses to accent the work we do on the restoration side.

Last week, we had the opportunity to work with Service Bros. Carpet Cleaning. Josh, the owner, jumped on the opportunity to help a local business in need after a pipe burst in their building. He responded quickly, came after hours, got right to work and extracted water from carpet and floors throughout the main office area. This type of work is necessary and must be done quickly to save current flooring and prevent mold.

Josh rocked it. He was professional, efficient, and supportive of the work we were doing to get the building back to full functionality.
