A home birth transfer is not a home birth failure. A transfer of care means that your midwife kept sharp eyes and feirce hearts. Ready to move you to the next level of care in a timely manner if it was indicated, whether that was prenatally, in labor, or postpartum. When you plan an out of hospital birth with a midwife and they make a recommendation for transfer, that is absolutely a success.
A good homebirth midwife will transition their care to a supportive position in partnership with your new hospital team. It's ok to be disappointed that your out of hospital birth didn't happen the way you envisioned. You may feel overwhelmed, scared, heartbroken, tender, or even triumphant. Homebirth Midwifery should never make you feel abandoned, instead sucessful homebirth Midwifery care should support, hold, love, and travel with you through it all. Even if that means a location change. 💕 We are so beyond thankful to work with so many phenomenal feirce hearts in our local homebirth community.
