Sometimes I think, 'If only kids could communicate clearly, then I could better help them.' But the reality is, kids learn through play and activity. The best way to connect with our kids is through setting apart time to intentionally be with them. Through these times we can slowly teach them how to understand emotions and communicate better with words.

1. Yes teen years are hard, and many things they do seem unexplainably stupid. But it is important to remember that these times are actually foundational in helping them develop the character they need to live great lives. So instead of looking to survive, focus on helping your teen thrive.⠀
⠀
2. Hormones do increase during this time but they do not determine our teen's behavior. Understanding how our child is developing can help parents know how to teach them to gain control of their emotions and brain when they feel the "world is ending."⠀
⠀
3. A push towards independence is natural and good, but what is just as important is helping teens develop the ability to be interdependent (being able to care for and receive help from people outside themselves). Teens should break away from being fully dependent on parents, but that does not mean they can or should enter life without the wisdom of others. Adult and peer relationships are key in the continued maturity of teens. ⠀

"Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary." Fred Rogers

It can feel scary to bring up difficult subjects. But speaking with our teens about important things helps them have the parameters they need to grow. Teens aren in a confusing and anxious time in their lives. Being a calm presence while naming hard things can help our teens feel supported, even in the most difficult conversations.

Does your child struggle with feeling overwhelmed? Do they get upset easily, nervous about friendships, dread tests, events, or the future? Do they co-sleep, have a hard time transitioning to new things, dislike changes, or stick by your side?⠀
⠀
We know our children have many strengths, but it can be hard to see them held back by anxiety. This intensive, yet fun, camp gives kids an opportunity to really focus in on building skills with others. This group helps kids understand, recognize and develop strategies to manage stress. ⠀
⠀
Using evidence-based therapy techniques, we give kids the space they need to learn how to confidently handle everyday challenges so that they can be their best selves.⠀
