Mother is a verb, not a noun.

Some days it feels like all I am is somebody’s mother. But there’s more behind that role - even if it is your most important one! Maintaining, or finding, your identity after having a baby can challenging but it’s worth every step.

Hi again! You may have noticed that I took a little break this summer. My attention was focused on my family while we navigated a big life change… we moved to North Carolina! While school’s still out, I’m easing into this new chapter slowly. Helping my kids acclimate while exploring new opportunities for my little business, down South!

The Fourth was born while we were living in Connecticut and coming out of the pandemic. I could not be more grateful for the families I met and connections made there 🖤

I’ll continue to work virtually so reach out here or at thefourthdoula@gmail.com AND if you’re local to The Triangle, I’ll be taking on new clients this fall! Can’t wait to meet you 🙂

And same goes for my 4 year old 🤪. We spend so much time and money “preparing” for a new baby ($15bn online baby product sales this year 🤯) but really how much does a new baby need? The truth: very little. Spend your time preparing yourself for postpartum, gather newborn essentials like diapers/wipes and a few onesies. But most importantly, get your support team lined up! We need more people and helping hands - less stuff.

International Women’s Day - with my daughter at the rally! Accessible childcare and supporting our amazing teachers has never been more important. Starting my doula business has meant relying on my daughters’ schools, my partner, and family members when I can’t be available to them.
We can’t celebrate women without recognizing the sacrifices they make and the lack of support they so often receive…We can do so much better! 🖤

It’s amazing to model caring and nurturing behavior for our babies, but showing them that self care matters too is just as valuable. I want my girls to value themselves first and foremost. 🖤

A lot of postpartum symptoms are common - it doesn’t mean you should
ignore them or suffer through any pain or discomfort. What’s common is not always the same as what’s normal.
