Sometimes the biggest safety risks are everyday clutter.

Common tripping hazards include:
• shoes near the door
• electrical cords across walkways
• small furniture in narrow paths
• items left on stairs

A clear walking path can make a big difference for safety at home.

The bathroom is one of the most common places where falls happen.

Why?

Hard surfaces + water + small spaces can make it challenging for older adults.

Many families wait until after a fall to think about bathroom safety.

Making small safety improvements early can help older adults stay independent longer.

I shared some common bathroom safety considerations in this article:

Maybe it's moving more slowly, being more cautious on stairs, or holding onto furniture while walking.

These observations are important.

Paying attention to changes in mobility or confidence can help families start thinking about home safety earlier.
