Ashiatsu massage is a deep tissue massage technique where the therapist uses their feet—instead of their hands—to apply broad, even pressure across the body.

The word comes from Japanese:
Ashi = foot
Atsu = pressure

During an Ashiatsu session, the therapist typically uses overhead bars, ropes, or support structures to control balance and adjust the pressure.

It’s sometimes called “barefoot massage,” but it’s more than just stepping on someone—it’s a skillful, flowing technique that can feel surprisingly smooth and soothing, despite being very deep.
