I took this video on Christmas Day. What a gift it was to be outdoors with my family and clearing my head of all the clutter that surrounds the holidays. Perhaps it can help to clear your head clutter too and set you up for an amazing week?! Please pardon the shakiness- that was our dog, Dax, being mindful about the squirrels all around!
Mantra to reconnect: I disconnect to reconnect. Our digital devices can be a source of constant distractions and create an inability to focus. Make a commitment to power off for a minimum of 20 minutes daily in order to refocus, reconnect, and re-energize.

9/11 Memorial Fountain: New York City, NY
This is a somber place- even in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city, it is relatively quiet. The stillness helps us to reflect and honor the lives lost. Stillness can help us in all ways and in every day life. How can you be still this week? Are you ready to try? Mantra to quiet the chaos: I allow myself to be still. External distractions always have the possibility to throw us off balance. We can choose to be still. When we choose to be still, we can connect to inner peace despite the external chaos. We always feel so much better after spending some time with Mother Nature! (Again, please pardon the shakiness- that's courtesy of our dog, Dax!) Mantra to be present in the moment: I will be one with nature. When we feel like we can't slow down our hectic lives or our racing minds, stepping out into nature helps us to pause. When we are one with nature, we are one with ourselves. This is being present in the current moment. Romila Mushtaq, MD

Start your week off with a bit of self care! Remember, self care is not selfish! Mantra for self-compassion: Self care is not selfish. When we don't fill our own vessel, we give from a place of empty. When we give from a place of empty, we don't give of our best self. True acts of self care involve nurturing the heart and soul with activities that bring you sustained joy. Romila Mushtaq, MD

Mantra for forgiveness: In giving forgiveness, I am healed. If we cannot forgive ourselves or another, we fuel negative emotions such as anger and resentment. Once we make a choice to forgive, our mind, heart, and soul is open for healing and love. Romila Mushtaq, MD

Royal Botanical Gardens, Edinburgh
We spent part of our last day in Scotland at the Royal Botanical Gardens and it was a wonderful place for practicing presence and self reflection. As we start our new year, consider focusing more on mantras to set the intention for how you want 2019 to go as opposed to making resolutions. As you observe this waterfall from the Botanical Gardens, breathe and still your mind and focus on a mantra such as this: "I will be grateful for something every day.” Gratitude is always a great way to start any day, week, or year!! Happy New Year!!
Killin Falls, Scotland
Let's return to the village of Killin and see the waterfalls from a different vantage point. Such stunning power and beauty, standing there and relishing in the awesomeness that is nature. Take a few seconds to clear your mind, breathe, and repeat this mantra: “I change my thoughts, I change my world.” – Norman Vincent Peale Go out there, change your world and do good things this week!!
Loch Coruisk, Isle of Skye
One of our favorite parts of our Scottish adventure was a boat ride from the town of Elgol on the Isle of Skye to see Loch Coruisk. This remote outcropping was so peaceful and beautiful- it felt as though few people had tread here throughout time. This is a small stream connecting Loch Coruisk to the Atlantic Ocean. Take a moment to reflect on nature, breathe, and focus on how you want your week to go. Try using this mantra: “Every day in every way I’m getting better and better.” – Laura Silva You are indeed getting better and better- have a great week!!!
Killin Falls and Watermill
The town of Killin in Stirling, Scotland has some breathtaking waterfalls as you first come into town. Take a moment to observe the rushing waters and the beautiful scenery. Perhaps this mantra can help you to set a calm and focused mindset to inspire you as you start your week! “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Gandhi
Stream on the Isle of Skye
We stopped on the Isle of Skye to observe the heathers. As I was walking around a bit, I was quite caught by the simple beauty of this meandering stream. I hope you find it calming and inspiring too! As you watch the video, take a quiet moment to breathe deeply and reflect on this magical moment in nature. Perhaps you might also consider repeating this mantra: “Love is the only miracle there is.” – Osho Have a great week everyone!!
Gwen's day at the acupuncture vet
We love it when we can keep our patients relaxed and happy during their treatments! Gwen much prefers the chicken and turkey baby food than the marmite that we offered! Here's hoping we can get Miss Gwen feeling better from her sprain quickly!
Penny loves her snufflemat
Penny loves her new snufflemat!! What a great interactive toy for any dog or curious cat but even greater for dogs with limited mobility to help engage their brains and bring the fun in! Kasey has been working like a busy bee making our very own Wholistic Paws Snufflemats- let us know if you'd like one!!
How wonderful when a patient relaxes and enjoys his acupuncture treatment :-) Wonder what he's dreaming about?
