Just wanted to share some old photos of me from about 7 years ago when I was in the worst place with IBS, adult acne, anxiety and overall terrible health. Of course, these photos just show what was going on on the surface. Beneath it, I was exhausted, I had terrible self-esteem, my body was a total mess, I was in extreme pain and discomfort most of the time.... I couldn't digest anything. Even drinking water would make me bloat.

I thought my life was over. I thought I was always going to feel this way.

Man, was I wrong. Life was just beginning.

I hope that these photos can give you hope, for how much things can change and get better. Nowadays, I feel stronger, more confident and healthy than I have ever in my life and I know my health is only getting better with the more that I learn and grow! I am an open book... have questions? 🦠Probiotics are NOT all created equal!

Big thanks to .abraham for these awesome infographics!

There is no one-size-fits-all probiotic, just as humans don’t all require the same diet.

So what is the difference between the different probiotics?

🧬In most probiotics, you will see “Lactobacillus” and “Bifidobacterium”. These bacteria are commonly found in fermented foods, too.

Bifidobacteria is most commonly found in the colon. assist in breaking down fiber into smaller fatty acids. This leads to B-vitamin production, immune system strength and protection from pathogens in the intestines.

Lactobacillus is what makes the gastric mucous acidic, which keeps the bad flora or “bad bacteria” at bay. These bacteria are commonly found in the stomach, small intestine and vaginal canal.

“What probiotic should I take?”

✅Take a probiotic that contains soil-based organisms (SBOs). When these little dudes multiply, they form a protective barrier to resist stomach acid, antibiotics and gut enzymes.

❌If you have dysbiosis or overgrowth of “bad bacteria” (such as SIBO), avoid probiotics that contain the probiotics inulin or FOS. This will just feed the bad bacteria even more.

❌If you have yeast sensitivity, avoid consuming S. Boulardii. This is a beneficial yeast for most people, but to be avoided if you have a sensitivity.

✅If you have chronic diarrhea, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Saccharomyces boulardii, Bifidobacterium lactis, and Lactobacillus casei are going to be your best bet.

✅If you have constipation, find a probiotic with higher amounts of Bifidobacterium than Lactobacillus.

It makes me feel sad to read about so many people who are struggling with gastritis, GERD, IBS, etc. and the doctors prescribe them with antibiotics or prescription drugs. I say it makes me sad because then I hear about the aftermath... the "messed up stomach", the out of whack gut biome, the persistent symptoms, the long lasting side-effects.

The H. Pylori, acid reflux, bloating, constipation and diarrhea are SYMPTOMS of a deeper problem. When we take drugs to eliminate the symptoms, we essentially put a bandaid on-top of everything, without truly becoming aware of the deeper, root cause.

Our bodies have an amazing healing capability, but many people have not been taught the tenants of holistic self-healing! 99% of us weren't taught this as kids! What's a person to do?!
I was one of those people who was STRUGGLING and no freaking clue what was going on with me! I was determined to learn though and figure it out... so I did.

I'm really passionate about self-healing and empowering people to become their own self-healers, with the right tools that help us to truly listen to our body's pains and needs so that we can cultivate a powerful relationship and heal.

Yesterday, I sat on the floor of my room and journaled about my “old story” until it led me to a massive breakthrough …. It poured out of me easier than I expected. (Check out my last post to see how this breakthrough wanted to be expressed through me!🤭)

As we begin a new year, it’s an especially good time to take a look at the “old story” that we’ve been living by and ponder the “new story” that we would like to create.

Tony Robbins was the first person to teach me about “old story” and “new story”. The old story is limiting beliefs or stories we have been telling ourselves, that have been holding us back in some way. Your “old story” includes the blocks that have been bugging you, the things you feel self-conscious about, insecurities, any limitations in your life. It can be how you’re used to seeing yourself. Old story= bring loving awareness to aspects of our life or behavior are negative or less-than-awesome.

Once you’ve gotten clear on your old story, write out and become very clear on your “new story”. It’s a very good sign if this new story brings up some emotions, maybe fear or nervousness- that’s wonderful! That’s a sign you’re pushing your comfort zone.

Your new story is who you’re becoming. How does this new you think? Behave? Talk? Sit? Live? Enjoy life? What does she do for a living or earn? What are the characteristics that define your new story?

Then… what you have to do is yell, “ERASE!” every time one of your “old story” thoughts or beliefs pops in your head and tries to run the show.
DIVORCE YOUR OLD STORY!

Today, I am going to take some time to journal about my new story. I took so long on my old story (which I am pleased about), I never got to the second half. I’m excited to uncover my new direction and heart desires.

🍶HOW TO MAKE COCONUT YOGURT AT HOME WITH TWO INGREDIENTS🥥
An act of radical self-empowerment and sovereignty is growing your food, cooking your meals and creating your own fermented cultures. ✊


These times are making me feel that more than ever, we need to learn skills to take care of ourselves and our families, instead of depending on a larger system that seems to be breaking apart at the seams.


Fermentation practices go back to the beginning of humanity. Eat them for gut and brain health and strong immunity.


Here’s my simple recipe for Coconut Yogurt:


Ingredients:
1 medium mature coconut (meat is slightly flimsy)
2 probiotic capsules

Blend the coconut meat and its water for 3 minutes, until the mixture is really smooth. Add more (regular) water if necessary. Thickness should be similar to that of traditional yogurt. Break open the probiotic capsules and add the powder. Blend for another few seconds.

Transfer the yogurt into mason jar(s). Do not fill more than 3/4 to the top, or else it may overflow when it ferments. Cover the mason jar with a cloth or napkin, secured with a rubber band. This prevents insects but allows for air flow and expansion.

Leave the yogurt in a dimly lit, room temperature área for 4-8 hours, depending on the climate. Tropical climate will require less time.

Once you notice small bubbles forming within the yogurt, you know the bacteria has done its job. Seal the jars with lids and put in the fridge.

Enjoy with fruit, granola, in salad dressings, get creative. Have a spoonful a day for a dose of probiotics!

WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE STILL SUFFERING WITH DEBILITATING DIGESTIVE ISSUES???🤯


Perhaps because....

👎🏽The doctor we trust with all things health told us we have a condition that is incurable.


👎🏽 We still think gut problems are all about diet, therefore we try yet another complicated & restrictive diet to try and fix our digestion.


👎🏽We continue taking pharmaceuticals that may or may not soothe our symptoms temporarily, but are really just putting a bandaid over the root cause of dis-ease.


👎🏽We are tired of spending so much money on doctors bills, therapy, medication and supplements, so we just are ready to give up altogether.

The Gut-Brain Axis (GBA) is a two-way communication pathway between gut and brain.


The brain informs the gut whether or not the body is in a safe situation. (Even is the body is technically in a safe situation, if the mind is in an emotionally fear-based state, it will inform the brain of danger).


Brain perceiving safety or danger- this will determine how the digestive system functions. If the brain perceives a state of danger, it will trigger the fight or flight nervous system response which will temporarily shut off the digestive system. If the mind perceives safety, the rest and digest response will activate, and blood will flood back into the digestive system. This is a time for eating, assimilating nutrients, and restoring the body.


On the other hand, the gut also sends signals to the brain. Some of the most important mood regulating hormones are produced in the gut.


Large amounts of serotonin and dopamine are produced in the gut, and have a huge impact on mood and emotional regulation. When gut bacteria is out of balance, this stability can be disturbed.
