"That which is Below corresponds to that which is Above, and that which is Above corresponds to that which is Below, to accomplish the miracle of the One Thing." I love this old hermetic quote (as translated from The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermeticism

In Reflexology, as in all bodywork, it is important to understand the therapeutic relationships that exist within our own structural anatomy. The wonderful Dr Stone of Polarity Therapy discovered this by applying the principle that the part contains the whole.(see the illustration).

Similarly Hanne Marquardt teaches..“All shapes , including anatomical ones, are not an end in themselves but serve a function.Within every external form there is a concealed “in-form-ation” as an intrinsic secret. Shape is the visible result of an invisible energetic development. All organs, bones, and tissues that show similarity in shape indicate therapeutically useful connections.” Hanne Marquardt (from Collected Treasures from the “Foot-path” of Life - Similarities of Shape)

In English below

The Upper Trapezius is of course the upper part of the muscle Trapezius, which is a muscle that originates from the back edge of the skull and from the side of the spinous processes down along the spine to one of the last thoracic vertebrae. Upper Trapezius – (pars decendens) however, divides by c.7 / th.1. It attaches to the scapula, to the humerus and to the clavicle.
Among its functions include stabilizing the shoulder blade, lifting the shoulder, turning the shoulder blade and indirectly moving the head and neck.
The muscle is located at the top and thus covers all other muscles from the shoulder girdle and up.
The upper part is under the influence of the Kidneys Qi and it will thus often react with increased tension when, for example, you are tense or nervous. Similarly, it is passed by two meridians - the Large Intestine meridian and the Gallbladder meridian, respectively

The illustration shows the area in the Upper Trapezius that most often shows stagnation or blocking of the qi of the Large Intestine Meridian. This is where the energy moves from the arm into the body and the area therefore describes a "transition" that already is exposed. The tension found here can be treated with great advantage towards the big toe when the client complains of disorders related to the Large Intestine or to the meridian itself. This is because the "opening" of the meridian also opens up for a more effective treatment of the organ itself.
In the above, 3 approaches to treatment are elucidated and all related to this part of the muscle.
1. A Western understanding of the Upper Trapezius and thus also when treatment of the same might be relevant – e.g. by shoulder and arm disorders. 😊
2. From an understanding of an unbalanced Kidney Qi 😊
3. Meridian; - Where the tension in the muscle triggers a stagnation or accumulation of energy in the Large Intestine meridian, which can both trigger disorders along the meridian and which in the long term can also trigger disorders in the intestine itself.

🔈 PELVIS TENSEGRITY

The pelvis is the center of gravity and the largest bony complex in the human body.
The pelvis and sacrum are linked via strong ligaments and muscles, creating a tension system that works with the compression-bearing bones to create a local tensegrity system.

These ligaments are visualized in the picture, they include the posterior SI ligaments (Iliotransversosacral, Axile, Zaglas, Bichat), anterior SI ligaments, the iliolumbar ligaments and the sacrotuberous and sacrospinous ligaments.

Locally, these ligaments need to have balanced tension to maintain SI joint integrity and normal bone positions in space.
If one of these ligaments is injured and loses its optimal tension/quality, disruption of the tensegrity balance ensues.
This leads to increased compression stress in the pelvis/SI and hip joints, but also leads to distortion of the global tensegrity of the body.

For example, in the picture we can see a normal, balanced pelvis icosahedron on the left with the horizontal balance beams through L4 and the greater trochanter did the femurs.
On the right, we can see the consequence of an injury to the right SI joint/ligament complex. This leads to pelvic and sacral shifting, unleveling of L3 (blue dot) and functional scoliosis, anterior-inferior shift of the left ilium, valgus stress in the left knee, and pronation stress in the left foot-ankle.
The white arrow represents the downward compressive force of gravity. If the tensegrity is balanced, the body can adequately resist gravity without breakdown.

Disruption of this tensegrity system is the source of joint degeneration and pain, all results of decreased space/compression in the joints.

This is but one example of how loss of connective tissue tension/quality leads to compression stresses as well as local and global distortions of the tensegrity system.

In biotensegrity, micro affects macro, local affects global!

🔈 DEEP FASCIA OF FOOT

A. The skin and subcutaneous tissue have been removed to demonstrate the deep fascia of the leg and dorsum of the foot.

B. The deep plantar fascia consists of the thick plantar aponeurosis and the thinner medial and lateral plantar fascia. Thinner parts of the plantar fascia have been removed, revealing the plantar digital vessels and nerves.

C. The bones and muscles of the foot are surrounded by the deep dorsal and plantar fascia. A large central and smaller medial and lateral compartments of the sole are created by intermuscular septa that extend deeply from the plantar aponeurosis.

A herniated disc occurs when the strength of the fibers of the disc is damaged.

After primary protrusion of the cell nucleus, a herniated disc may develop at a later stage. This can lead to pressure on the neurovascular structures.

This pressure can lead to partial or complete paralysis of the limbs.

Treatment in the system of correspondence. It is better to choose Insectsystems (on the fingers) for treatment.

The bone base of the fingers has a similarity to the spine.

We choose the Finger side for the treatment depends on the localization of the hernia or protrusion:
- yin (front) side of the finger
- yang (back) side of the finger
- left or right (lateral) side of the finger

The proximal finger phalanx corresponds to the lower thoracic region (9th to 12th thoracic vertebrae), the lumbar region as well as the sacrum and the coccyx.

Each area is exactly 1/3 phalanges in height.
The intervertebral disc L5-S1 is located at the border of the middle and lower third.

First we find painful points with the help of a diagnostic stick. Then we massage these points until the pain is significantly reduced.

Then we warm these points with moxa until a feeling of stable warmth develops in the warming zone. This activates the tissue regeneration processes.

Next, the seeds of buckweat, black pepper, rose hip, millet or mung bean are applied to these areas.

From the point of view of Traditional Chinese Medicine, kidneys are responsible for bone condition. Therefore, it is important to find all painful points in the area of their projection, massage them and then attach the seeds.

The spine is a huge joint, controlled by the liver and gallbladder. We must also find painful points in their projection, massage them and then attach the seeds.

Fun Friday!

With many reflexologists around the world starting to re-open after pausing their businesses for ~4 months, I thought this would be a fun review of the reflex locations … in the comments below drop what reflexes are NOT in the right location on this reflex chart used to market Reebok shoes.

I've dreamed of this for years.
