Polishing old brass candlesticks.
I used Barkeepers Friend on the polished stick in the top photo. Took a lot of rubbing and several polishing sessions.
I used Thieves Kitchen & Bath Scrub to polish the stick in the bottom photo. Took a couple of minutes with light rubbing.

🌿 Smelling essential oils the way Gary Young taught us.

Not all oils are created equal. And the way you smell them? That can tell you more than you think.

🌀 Here's the method Gary taught …

Start by holding the open bottle at your waist.
Making gentle circles in front of you, lift the bottle towards your nose.
Continue to swirl — don’t rush it. The speed matters.

Why? Because solvents (if they’re there) rise faster than pure oil molecules. That slow lift gives you the chance to feel, detect, anything off as it slowly reaches your nose. It also allows you to experience the AROMATIC LAYERS within the complete oil, the lighter weight molecules rising faster, with the heavier molecules rising more slowly.

Gary: "If you isolate a compound from an essential oil, it is toxic. Thus you need ALL the compounds in the essential oil, in order to balance each other out. This is why you are looking for a full, complete, smooth, robust aroma. If something has been added in that shouldn’t be there, or taken out when it should have been left in, that’s going to create an unbalanced oil. And that’s when an essential oil can create harm to the body (of both people and animals)."

A truly pure oil has a full, rich aroma; smooth and whole.

If it feels rough, sharp, or uneven… your body may be picking up on something added or something missing. A good quality oil will have a smooth, complete, robust aroma.

***Because adulteration isn’t something that’s declared on any essential oil label, avoiding it is a matter of knowing where your oils come from and how they’re tested.
