📣 With the recent heavy rains, we will begin mosquito spraying this week to help control the mosquito population and protect public health.

Spraying will begin Monday, March 31st, and continue through Thursday, April 3rd, covering different zones across the city—including areas in District 5. Please refer to the map for the full schedule and spray zones.

SCAM ALERT ⚠️:

We often here the term "fly-by-night-contractor" and unfortunately they are people who take advantage of unsuspecting victims who have been affected by storm damages. If you encounter people like this please ask a lot of questions.

Questions to Ask:

1. Are you a local contractor and if so do you have a local place of business?

I. Working with local registered contractors is always your best bet. They know the area well and if they have a local place of office from it's even better because you can always find them. There is always local city ordinances that a contractor should know and should be aware of and this can save you time and money.

2. Are you registered with the city and can provide proof of insurance?

I. As a client you have the right to ask for their insurance and before any initial payment is made you have the right to make sure the insurance is active. You as the client also have the right to request that the contractor puts you as a certificate holder on their insurance before any work is started.

3. Can you provide a written proposal for your work?

I. Read proposals and contracts carefully and avoid signing anything right there and than. Avoid contractors asking for large upfront payments. Make sure you have clear payment terms outlined and guarantees are outlined and explained.

II. Always try to get three quotes from three diffrent companies to compare what they are offering. These contracts are always negotiable and avoid pressure tatic contractors who will tell you that they are taking priority on clients that sign contracts the same day.

4. Can you provide a list of references from past clients and addresses?

I. Don't be afraid to ask for professional references, this is a common practice throughout the industry and no one should feel unfunded if you request them.

5. Do you offer financing for this project?

I. Offering financing is a great help to get your project started but be careful not to give your personal information away. Financing options should be discussed right there and than and any form of financing applications should be done right there and do not give your personal information away for a later date.

II. We normally send out a link where our clients can fill out the application on their own time and we don't ask for personal information. We will follow through with application process once they are approved, but we do not ask for personal information like social security numbers.

6. Can you do the work cheaper than my lowest bid?

I. Cheaper bids are not always better because often those cheaper contractors don't have the backing of being licensed or insured. They often start at a cheaper price and will upcharge you with change orders as the work continues, becareful with a contractor that says "I can do it for cheaper" that almost always leads to problems.

These are just some questions you should always ask a contractor and becareful out there as many people unfortunately get scammed especially our elderly.

We all want priority sometimes for our homes to get repaired but we also need to becareful were not taken advantage of. We will continue update everyone with more tips. Stay safe everyone.
