A message from Chaim Berger, CEO of BoldSteps Behavioral Health
From a very young age, I was obsessed with one question: What is my purpose in life?
This wasn’t just a passing thought, it consumed me. I truly believed that once I discovered my purpose, everything else would fall into place. My direction, my passion, my work… all of it.
That obsession became a journey. I signed up for workshops, poured over books, spoke with my rabbis and mentors, followed voices like Jack Canfield, and chased down anything that felt like a clue.
Eventually, I realized that purpose isn’t always a sudden “aha” moment. It’s more often a process of aligning with the right things, your values, your strengths, and your passions—and then showing up, one step at a time.
Everything began to make sense when I encountered the Japanese concept of Ikigai, which means “a reason for being.”
It gave structure to everything I had been searching for:
✨ What you love
✨ What you’re good at
✨ What the world needs
✨ And most importantly, what you would do even if you weren’t paid for it
That’s the magic of Ikigai: doing what you love because it fills your soul, not your bank account. It’s what puts you in flow. It’s what makes time disappear. It’s what reminds you that you’re alive.
That realization changed everything for me. It brought clarity to my own path and reshaped how I wanted to serve others.
So I ask you: What’s your Ikigai?
At Bold Steps, we help people reconnect with purpose, because recovery isn’t just about getting better… it’s about rediscovering what makes you come alive.
