Knot + Clover Therapy

Knot + Clover Therapy Hi, I’m Alyssa! As a psychotherapist, I provide virtual sessions for women in NY + CT. I aim to provide a comfortable space for you to grow, change, and heal.

I help women heal their anxiety and panic attacks, overcome negative self-talk, and increase their confidence, so they can live happier and more fulfilled lives. Does any of this sound like you?

- You’re having anxiety or panic attacks and you’re not sure why.
- No matter how hard you try, you can’t stop your racing or negative thoughts.
- The things you used to love, like traveling or meeting new people, are now scary.
- You want to become more assertive and create boundaries, but you don’t know how.
- You are always worried, overthinking, and doubting yourself.
- You’re constantly feeling exhausted but cannot sleep at night.
- You compare yourself to others and go down a shame spiral while scrolling on social media. If your answer was a resounding, “yes and holy crap how does she know what I’m thinking?” then you’re in the right place. I’m here to help.

I’ve been told that sitting with me is like sitting with a great friend over coffee- warm, grounding, silly, and safe. Yes, I’m an experienced and knowledgeable therapist, but I’m also a human first. I take a mind-body-spirit approach to healing. You are a whole person, after all, not a problem to be fixed. I utilize what I’ve learned from my own experiences plus my 10+ years of clinical experience, education, and training to guide you to become who you are meant to be with more ease. It can be so disheartening and frustrating to feel like you’re not living the life you are meant to. On top of that, knowing where to start can feel overwhelming and confusing. You are not alone. I have felt this way before, and I know that other women have as well. Together, we can move you towards the life you deserve to live. I am a licensed psychotherapist. I received my Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Fordham University, and I am licensed to see clients who live in New York and Connecticut. I am also a certified Koru Mindfulness teacher and utilize mindfulness and meditation practices in your treatment when appropriate.

Change, even good change, can feel hard and scary. The work of therapy isn’t so much about getting rid of all the scary and hard things in your life, it’s about giving you tools and a new framework that can help you move through struggles with more confidence and ease. I’ve been where you are, which means I can meet you where you are now and gently guide you to where you want to be. Therapy is not an overnight process, and it’s anything but linear. I’ll be with you every step of the way to help you take small, sustainable steps to get you to where you want to be. You will have a safe space to share the good things, the hard things, and most definitely the awkward things with me. I believe in the power of therapy wholeheartedly. It’s through the relationship that you and I create together that facilitates powerful transformation from where you are to where you are meant to be. Instead, challenge yourself to be quiet, still, and present in your body. Take 5-10 deep breaths, go for a walk outside, or get up and literally . Your nervous system and your mind will thank you

If there's one lesson that keeps smacking me in the face, it's this. You'll feel worse when you don't receive the response you deserve and hope for. Reserve your vulnerability for those in your inner circle. For those who see and love every part of you and have the capacity to validate your experience.

Okay so here's part two of three I want to discuss with you today...making room for the "and." Many of you have probably heard of DBT or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Dialectics simply means that we can hold two opposing ideas at the same time, and both can be true. I appreciate myself AND I don't love myself yet. I am doing the best I can AND I have a lot to learn. Inserting the "and" instead of a word like "but" makes room for self-compassion and other possibilities. We are far too complex as humans in our thoughts, feelings, and emotions to not allow us to explore the gray, whereas "but" makes a statement more black and white. When we use the word "but," we automatically go to the second truth after that. "I appreciate myself BUT I don't love myself yet." Can you see and feel the difference?

By using "and," we allow both truths to be just as important. I'd love for you to practice this in your own life. You can be silly and have fun with it too. I jokingly do this with my husband when I say, "I love you so much AND I will kill you if you drop one more piece of chocolate on our beige couch" 😝😝 Let me know how this goes and feel free to drop some "and" truths below. I'd love to see them!

Happy birthday, Duke! My little boy is 13 years old today. This guy has brought so much joy into my life. He's so loving, goofy, and playful- a big personality packed into a little body. Dogs, and pets in general, can be so healing. I'm so for the unconditional love and support he provides me each and every day. Here's to many more birthdays and good health for my Chief Barking Officer

There are a few aspects of this post that are important to acknowledge. Today I'm going to talk about the first aspect, which is the concept of appreciating versus loving ourselves. It might be easier for some of us to identify things that we appreciate about ourselves rather than things we love about ourselves because it feels more authentic to where we currently are. If you can say and feel that you love yourself, I'm so happy for you! But if you can start with things you appreciate, that's incredible.

To be totally honest, I don't know if or when I'll get to a point where I can say I truly love myself. But I can definitely say I appreciate things about myself. I'm deeply sensitive and empathic. I love animals. I appreciate that I love to learn and grow. I'm willing to do the hard work and walk the walk, not just talk the talk. What do you appreciate about yourself? Share below AND stay tuned for the next two parts of this post I want to chat about with you 😊

Your Friday reminder to pause and listen to yourself. Just because something is a great opportunity, doesn't mean it's a great opportunity for you. Following our intuition and how we feel in our body usually gives us the answer we need, even if it's not the answer we want to hear. Have a great weekend, fierce folks.

~Elizabeth Gilbert
I love doing word searches, watching CBS Sunday Morning (who doesn't love that trumpet and that sun?), making up songs about my dog, pretending I'm a famous actress being interviewed about my latest movie while in the shower, and watching all sorts of documentaries. Rock on, fellow weirdos! 🤘✌

What a celebration of we had in June at the Old Greenwich Festival! Attendees wrote what they were thankful for on gratitude jars & pinned them to the top of the tent over my table. It was magical 😍
Special thanks to my personal IG guru, , for creating this reel for me. What are you all grateful for today??
