After having my first child, I realized that I needed to be a part of the birth world and found a calling in being a Doula. While working on my certifications, I have had wonderful opportunities to attend a wide variety of births. Each birth has required different roles and skills. I firmly believe in following the mother's lead and being attentive to her needs not only during labor, but before an
d postpartum during recovery. As part of my services, I will meet with a birthing family and any support people they wish at least twice before 38 weeks, and will be available by phone and email for any questions or concerns at all times. I will be on call 2 weeks prior to and after a birthing person’s due date to attend labor. I will attend the labor and delivery based on what was decided in prior meetings and remain with the family a few hours after delivery to help with whatever needs there may be. I will then come postpartum twice to the family home and help in whatever way will be most beneficial to the family. My feeling is that birthing people should have all the support they need to feel empowered in their choices for birth. Therefore, I feel it important to customize each families "plan" to their wishes ahead of time to be most helpful to them.
