In collaboration with JMU Graduate Psychology, CAPS was honored to host Secure Child and Virginia Attachment Center for the workshop, How Healing Happens: Using Attachment-Caregiving Evaluations and the Process of Therapy to Help Families Increase Connection and Joy. Students in graduate psychology, clinicians, and community members came together to learn about the heart of therapeutic change and the power of secure relationships.

🌨️ If the darker months weigh on your mood or energy, you’re not alone. Here are simple ways to support your wellbeing this season:

✨ Seek out natural light
Open the curtains, sit by a window, or take a short morning walk.

🚶 Move your body
Gentle stretching, yoga, or a brisk walk can lift your mood more than you might expect.

🕰️ Keep a steady routine
Regular sleep and wake times help stabilize energy and motivation.

🤝 Stay connected
A quick call, a shared meal, or a hobby group can brighten even the coldest days.

🍲 Nourish yourself
Warm, balanced meals and staying hydrated support both body and mind.

🧘 Create calm moments
Try breathing exercises, journaling, or simply making your space cozy and comforting.

If winter feels especially heavy, reaching out to someone you trust — a friend, family member, or a mental health professional — can make a real difference.
