Sometimes family is written in blood, and sometimes it’s written in spirit. I’ve been blessed with both, my older biological sister, and the rare gift of soul sisters. 👯♀️
Though they were only children in their own respective families, we were acquainted through the bond our parents shared as musicians. Out of those tangled, unconventional beginnings grew a bond that doesn’t need to be explained. A knowing that lives in silence and in laughter, in the spaces where words don’t quite reach. 🏕️💫
A few years ago, I asked one of these soul sisters what her favorite colors were. She answered with a single word, “sunset”.
That reply sparked something beautiful. I dyed and gathered the hues of the horizon, golden yellow, fiery orange, vibrant pink, and deep violet, and wove them into a broom. Not a broom of my own imagination, but one born entirely from her vision.
Since then, I’ve made many sunset brooms, and each time I do, I honor her. They are more than brooms. 🧹 They are an outpouring of love in bristle and thread. 🌾🧵 They are reminders of how the people we love paint our lives in colors we might never have seen on our own. 🌅✨
