Instead of talking to MAGA or each other, focus on winning the hearts and minds of the unaware and undecided.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Greater Haverhill Indivisible to Join Nationwide “No Kings” Rally on October 18.
Greater Haverhill Indivisible (GHI) will join groups across the country for the nationwide “No Kings” visibility action, holding a peaceful standout at White’s Corner and along the sidewalks of Main Street in downtown Haverhill from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM.

This event is not focused on any one political figure. Rather, it is a nonpartisan call to defend freedom of speech, due process, the right to protest, and the constitutional values we all share.

“As Thomas Paine wrote in 1776, ‘in free countries, the law ought to be king; and there should be no other.’ That idea is more important than ever to everyone who believes in the Constitution and democracy,” said a GHI spokesperson. “And as Samuel Adams reminded us at the founding of our nation, ‘There are no kings in America, and no subjects.’”

The Haverhill Police Department has been notified about the event. The group will also have a dozen trained peacekeepers, all volunteers, present at the event to help maintain safety, calm, and respectful interactions among participants and the public.

The event is open to the public and the media. Community members are encouraged to attend, bring signs, and stand together in support of democracy and constitutional rights.

I am not a terrorist. I am not a “paid protester.” I am an American who loves this country and cherishes the freedoms our Constitution guarantees — freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.

Indivisible and all No Kings rally organizers strictly adhere to nonviolence. We train in de-escalation because we believe that protest is a patriotic act — one rooted in love of country, not hate.

So no, I am not a terrorist. I am a proud American exercising my constitutional rights, standing with millions of my neighbors to say that authoritarianism has no place here. I will be there on Oct. 18 — peacefully, proudly, and unapologetically.

— Carolyn McAleese, Utica, president Oneida County Democratic Women’s Clu
