What a bad puppy mommy I am!!! I’ve not been updating you people at all on Roxie’s health. I’m sorry, my life has been really pretty unbelievable, I would get into it, but you really wouldn’t believe it so we’ll leave it at that…Roxie had chemo last Thursday and some bloodwork, we didn’t hear from the doctor so I’m assuming her blood work went well. She has gained more weight, which is now a bordering overweight for her breed. We are trying to limit her treats. She does take her medicine much better now so we’re cutting back on the treats…she is a chubby little thing. It is not impacting her health at the moment, but we are aware of the weight gain, and we are being cautious of any more weight gain. The doctor believes that it has to do with the steroids, which she did decide to decrease this visit. Hopefully the inflammation continues to remain at a healthy point. she is still taking the anti-seizure medication and she is still taking the omeprazole, we did notice some blood in her stool so we will be sure to continue that for a while. they believe that has to do with the steroids as well. Otherwise she’s doing very well. She’s back to her old self and running around playing with her sister, she’s extremely playful again. She does get a little tired immediately after the chemo, but she’s not acting strangely with this round, which is good to see, she’s still loving her cuddles and all in all she’s doing very well. She has another visit in three weeks and hopefully she continues to improve. Thanks again to everybody who continues to follow her journey. 💗💗💗

Quick update on Roxie… boy does she have her s***k back!!! Back to barking like a normal dog, dragging her toys all over the place playing with them like a normal dog. She’s not sleeping on dirty p*e p*e pads anymore. She’s not sleeping by the front door. She’s enjoying her beds. She’s enjoying cuddle time with her sister, so nice to see her back to normal. We are so pleased to see the progress that she is making!!! This week, she sure does seem like our old Roxie!!! 💜💜💜

Roxie had a bit of a rough week, post Chemo, but she is coming around and getting back to her normal sweet self!!! The Chemotherapy always makes her extra sleepy, shaky, nauseous (with some vomiting), and some strange behaviors, like sleeping on dirty p*e-p*e pads or sleeping by the front door door instead of one of her three very comfortable, warm, Posturepedic pet beds!!! I’m happy to announce that she is back to being playful. She is eating well. She’s enjoying cuddles with Mom, Dad, and Callie…and she is actually sleeping in her bed.

Also, I have been feeling this for quite some time and I plan to speak to the neurologist. I know I’m not a doctor, but I’m starting to feel like Roxie may not have epilepsy. She absolutely did have a seizure due to inflammation, but I believe that the prolonged seizure resulted in a stroke. To me she is showing all the signs of having had a stroke, and even in the moment I thought she was having a stroke. She has lost instinct in her right eye, I don’t know what they call it, but the reflex in her right eye, she doesn’t react to stimuli that comes at her on the right, but she does on the left, her mouth droops on the right and the right side is the side of her body that shakes. I, in my gut, do not know if it is going to be necessary to be on seizure medication for the rest of her life, but I do think that she may need to be on a very low-dose, a maintenance dose, of prednisone to keep the inflammation down in her brain. I plan to discuss this with the neurologist at our next appointment and I will keep you all posted. PLEASE keep praying for Roxie 💜💜💜

Roxie has been having a rough few days since her chemo treatment. It’s definitely affecting her a little more this time than it has in the past, no major issues, no seizure activity or anything like that. She’s still eating. She’s still voiding. No vomiting, no diarrhea. I’m assuming she may be nauseous. She’s been fairly inactive, sleepy, but odd behavior again, sleeping by the front door rather than in her comfy bed, sleeping on a dirty Pee-Pee pad rather than in her bed…we have three comfy puppy beds that are available to her and she’s choosing these uncomfortable smelly places to lie, so just odd behavior, nothing super concerning, nothing that makes us feel like we need to bring her to the doctor, just that she’s probably having some side effects from the chemo this time more so than in the past. BUT…I had surgery last week and my dad had surgery yesterday. I went with my mom yesterday for my dad‘s surgery and as I was leaving the house, I was trying to unlock the front door. I didn’t have the strength in my left arm to unlock the door so instinctively, I tried to use my right hand, and I re-injured my surgically repaired arm, as well, I am having a sciatica flareup so I will be spending the day on the couch and Miss Roxie will be cuddled up with me all day, giving her plenty of time to recuperate!!! hoping for a better update for you tomorrow…

Oh almost forgot to mention that because of her positive bloodwork results we are able to push her visits from every three weeks to every four weeks, which is wonderful but still financially draining while we are still trying to catch up on the initial hospitalization so if you feel so inclined, please check out our go fund me. It is still open and still accepting donations. Every little bit helps. We are up to almost $25,000 in debt with Roxie‘s bills, but we do see a light at the end of the tunnel as far as her health goes and we are praying that we can get these bills paid off in a timely manner. If you cannot help that’s OK, please continue to share. Every share helps. 💜

Today was a pretty good day for Roxie. She had another follow up appointment. They did more bloodwork (we should have the results of those tomorrow) and she had her chemo treatment. She seems to do really well with the chemotherapy, it doesn’t seem to bother her too much, just makes her a little extra sleepy. They cut back her prednisone. She’s gained a pound, which is probably not good for a little tiny dog like her, it’s about a 20% increase, since she was initially admitted, so they would like us to cut back on the treats with the medicine; but that’s OK because she’s getting good at taking the meds. All and all it was a good appointment. Hopefully we get good news tomorrow with the blood work results!!! 💜
