According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, up to 39% of all dental injuries are sports-related. And kids aged 7 to 11 are most vulnerable to sports-related mouth injuries.

Mouth guards can reduce the risk of lost teeth or facial trauma–saving your kids unnecessary pain and your family thousands of dollars in treatment costs. Any athlete playing contact or collision sports should wear one, no matter their age.

Look for mouth guards that are the right size, fitted, lightweight, strong, and easy to clean. Stock, boil-and-bite, and custom-fitted mouth guards can all be great solutions.

And don’t forget–activities where your child’s face could hit something hard (like another person, a ball, or pavement) can also cause mouth injuries. Encouraging kids to wear mouth guards any time there’s a risk of injury can spare you both headaches down the road.
