Studies show that many things start in the gut. Even brain issues trace back to the gut. Believing that, I wonder if the issues of dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other brain issues as we age have something to do with our changes in diet as we age. We tend to not eat the same foods that we enjoyed in our 20’s or 30’s. Could there be a correlation? Many parents have even come out to say that by changing their child’s diet, they saw drastic changes in them. Exercise is also another piece of the puzzle which is why it’s so important to stay active as we age. We have to be proactive in caring for ourselves because in the end, no one else will.

Studies are showing that dementia related illness will double by 2060. That it’s doubling 35 long years down the road is not the biggest concern, but more about the WHY. Why does it happen to begin with? They say adults can reduce their risk of dementia in numerous ways by addressing risk factors such as stress, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and hearing loss. Restful sleep and social engagement are also key factors. Everything goes back to leading a healthy life with proper eating and exercise.
