💙 A flu shot won’t prevent every flu infection — but it does lower your risk of experiencing a severe one.

I got my flu shot and highly recommend everyone with diabetes get theirs as well. Even if you still catch the flu, the symptoms tend to be milder, and you're less likely to face hospitalization, pneumonia, or dangerous blood sugar fluctuations.

For individuals with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, that level of protection is important. Illness can significantly disrupt glucose control, and the flu is particularly risky for those managing diabetes.

An annual flu shot remains one of the most effective ways to reduce complications and protect your health this season.

If you have questions about vaccines or managing blood sugars, I’m here to help.

🔬 Ever wonder what’s actually happening inside your body during remission?

Here’s what improves when remission occurs:
• Your pancreas (beta cells) can rest and release insulin more effectively.
• Your muscles, fat, and liver become less insulin-resistant.
• Fat in your liver and pancreas decreases — improving metabolic function.
• Your blood glucose and HbA₁c return to near-normal levels.

In short, your body is regaining its natural balance. 🙌

These improvements reduce the risk of long-term complications — but ongoing monitoring is still key.

📋 How do you know if you’ve reached remission?

The ADA and international experts say you must meet all these:
✅ HbA₁c < 6.5 % (48 mmol/mol)
✅ No glucose-lowering medication for ≥ 3 months
✅ (or) Fasting blood glucose < 126 mg/dL (< 7.0 mmol/L)
✅ Ongoing A1c monitoring every 6–12 months

💙 At Manage Your Rx, we meet you where you are — starting with your current numbers and journeying with you until remission.

Because progress looks different for everyone, and every step counts.

💙 What does “remission” mean in diabetes?
The American Diabetes Association defines Type 2 diabetes remission as having healthy blood sugar levels without using glucose-lowering medication for at least 3 months — and keeping an HbA₁c below 6.5%.

It’s not the same as being “cured.” Instead, remission indicates that your body’s insulin use and glucose regulation have improved enough that medication may no longer be necessary.

👉 Remission is a sign your body is healing and regaining balance.

Stay tuned all week as we break down how remission happens — and how to work toward it safely with your care team.

👻 Happy Halloween from Manage Your Rx! 🍬

You don’t have to skip the sweets — eat candy responsibly!
Here are a few blood-sugar–friendly tips for trick-or-treat night:

🩵 Pair candy with protein to help steady glucose levels
🩵 Stick to fun-size portions — enjoy the taste, not the spike
🩵 Avoid grazing all night — choose your treat, then move on
🩵 If you use insulin, keep an eye on your timing and dose when enjoying sweets

A little mindfulness makes Halloween even sweeter (without the sugar crash)! 💙

💙 Don’t Wait Until It Becomes Diabetes: Prediabetes Can Still Cause Damage

Many people believe prediabetes is “not serious” — but elevated blood sugar levels can gradually damage small blood vessels.

🩸 Even before a diabetes diagnosis, research shows that microvascular changes begin to occur, such as:

Retinopathy (eye damage)
Neuropathy (nerve damage)
Early kidney changes

The good news? These risks can often be minimized — or even reversed — with early action.

At Manage Your Rx, we assist clients in:
✅ Understanding their health metrics
✅ Developing practical nutrition and activity strategies
✅ Enhancing insulin sensitivity
✅ Preventing the progression to Type 2 diabetes.

💻 Learn how small changes today can protect your eyes, kidneys, and nerves for years to come.
