What happens when you combine yoga and acupuncture? A deeply healing experience that nourishes muscles and connective tissue as well as your internal organs. 🧘🏻‍♀️🤝☯️

As your fascia melts (it literally becomes less viscous!) into a restorative yoga pose, it offers the perfect conduit for acupuncture needles. Each needle helps trigger a local healing response while also regulating hormonal, neurochemical, and electrical messaging across fascial planes.

Through a thoughtful combination of yoga poses and acupuncture points, we’ll activate pathways that enter organs like your liver and kidneys. This kind of fascial-mediated stimulation can actually impact gene expression on a cellular level!

Ready to melt onto the mat and heal yourself from the inside out? Register at www.iamyam.com for either or both of our upcoming classes:

🌙 Sunday, May 17th, 5 - 7 PM (in the Moon Studio)

🌞 Saturday, May 30th, 5 - 7 PM (in the Sun Studio)

We’re proud to announce Dr. Chris as acupuncturist of the month! 👏

Many of you may know Chris as a skilled, compassionate practitioner of Chinese medicine, but did you know he also gardens and keeps bees 🐝 🌸🌱? And prior to becoming an acupuncturist, Chris served in the Army as a combat medic. This experience inspired him to explore healthcare from a more holistic lens. Then, when a veterinarian showed him the profound impact acupuncture can have on animals, he knew he had to pursue it!

Struggling with women’s health issues, pain, or a tricky, chronic condition? Visit our website to book with Chris (link in bio) or call 828-388-8516 ☯️

One of our favorite things to do is help people avoid surgery – and it happens all the time! Many of our patients find relief from acupuncture after trying almost everything else first. And when they do turn to surgery, we often see that acupuncture helps them prepare for a smoother procedure and recover much faster than they would otherwise. ❤️‍🩹

It’s that time of year! So many of you have come to the clinic complaining of allergies. 🤧

Tired of mouth breathing and relying on antihistamines? Chinese medicine can help by regulating the immune system, reducing inflammation, improving lymphatic drainage, and modulating the nerves which trigger mucus production!

We went on air yesterday for an interview about acupuncture! Thanks so much for having us 📻. Catch the recording at WTZQ.com/episode/hendersonville-acupuncture-and-wellness ✨🌱

Dr. Sonya discussed:

☯️ What acupuncture can help treat (hint: almost anything)

☯️ How acupuncture helps increase longevity

☯️ Why acupuncture should NOT just be your last resort and how it’s most powerful as a preventative measure, but how it often restores hope to folks who’ve been told “there’s nothing more we can do”

☯️ Success stories

Struggling with wrinkles, skin laxity, dullness, puffiness, or acne? We’re here for you with a treatment that addresses the root cause – and naturally restores youthful skin. ✨🪞✨

At our clinic, a facial acupuncture session isn’t just skin deep: It’s a full-body treatment that gives you a glow from the inside out 🧘🏻‍♀️. We tailor our approach to address any systemic imbalances that may be impacting your skin, starting with body points to ground and nourish your energy. Then, we use hair-thin needles on the face to smooth wrinkles, lift laxity, calm redness, and brighten the complexion. Not only does facial acupuncture induce collagen production over time, it works on a muscular level to sculpt and lift the contours of your face! While the needles do their work, we use a red-light mask to amplify collagen production and stimulate healing. Finally, we close the treatment with facial cupping and gua sha using a botanical-infused oil to further sculpt the face, increase bloodflow, and drain lymphatic fluid. 🌿🌸🧖🏽‍♀️

Spring has turned our yards into an herbal pharmacy! Right now, you can find two vibrant Chinese herbs in almost every lawn across Western North Carolina: dandelion and violet. Not only are these flowers edible, they have powerful medicinal properties. 🌿🌸

In TCM, both dandelion (Pu Gong Ying) and violet (Zi Hua Di Ding) clear damp/toxic heat. In other words, they cool inflammation, detoxify the body, and soothe irritation. This makes them excellent allies for your spring detox. You can also use them on your skin to treat bug bites, rashes, and sunburns!

Warning: Be mindful of where you harvest these flowers, as pollutants and pesticides could have contaminated them in urban settings. We also recommend working with a licensed herbalist if you plan on taking large amounts of plants for medicinal purposes. While dandelions and violets have stellar standalone properties, they may not be ideal for your constitution. Chinese herbalists rarely prescribe sing-herb remedies, as many herbs work better in harmony with others. Often, the true medicine lies in the right ratio and combination of plants! 🪴 🤝🫚

According to TCM, springtime can provoke impatience: We dwell in a space possibilities, anticipating our seeds to bloom 🌸. But when it comes to healing through Chinese medicine, patience is essential! Unlike pharmaceuticals, which can provide immediate, short-term relief by overwriting your body’s impulses, Chinese medicine gradually coaxes your body into a state of health. It’s like cultivating better soil to yield vibrant flowers rather than dyeing the petals with artificial coloring.

That said, acupuncture and herbal medicine take time to work! And when they do, the results last longer because they tended to the root, not just the branch. As a rule of thumb, we see that patients need about one week of acupuncture for every month an issue has been going on. In the case of acute conditions, you may require multiple treatments a week. 💚

🌸🧠 As much as we love springtime, it can be a pain in the head thanks to seasonal allergies and Liver Qi Stagnation. Luckily, there’s an acupuncture point on the back of the hand that helps soothe headaches: Large Intestine 4 (LI4).

From a Chinese medicine perspective, LI4 powerfully unblocks stagnant qi and is the “command point” of the face.
Functional MRIs show that stimulating LI4 changes blood flow patterns in brain regions that regulate pain, including the amygdala. It also releases endorphins and decreases inflammation.

Acupressure on this point can work wonders too! When you feel a headache coming on, massage LI4 with firm pressure on each hand for a few minutes, repeating the pattern until your pain subsides. ❤️‍🩹

🌸🌱🐝 We hope the early bloomers and bird songs are bringing you joy!

Chinese medicine designates spring as an ideal time to “detox” the liver, so we posted a blog with tips on how to do so naturally and safely. Hint: You don’t need to buy expensive supplements 💊. (Link in bio)
