Technology is always advancing in ophthalmology. One of the greatest recent innovations is the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL), which Summit Eye Associates offers their cataract patients. The LAL lens is the only lens adjusted AFTER surgery! This technology gives you, the patient, the opportunity to preview your vision before setting the final prescription for the lens. The vision adjustments are made with a Light Delivery Device (LDD) painlessly in-office with the doctor. After adjustment and time to test drive the new vision, your vision is then “locked-in” with the same LDD process.

The slit lamp gives a highly magnified view of the structures inside your eye, including the lens behind your pupil, so your doctor can carefully look for any signs of infection or disease. With the help of special hand-held lenses, it can even be used to examine your retina, the light-sensitive lining at the back of the eye.

Based on what your doctor sees, they may recommend additional testing during the same visit or schedule a follow-up to take a closer look.

Meet Dr. Joshua O. Young!

Dr. Young is an ophthalmologist specializing in advanced cataract surgery and surgical glaucoma care, including MIGS and SLT laser treatments. A proud graduate of Lipscomb University, he went on to earn his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his ophthalmology training through Texas A&M at Scott & White Hospital.

When he’s not helping patients achieve clearer vision, Dr. Young enjoys spending time outdoors with his family. You’ll often find him mountain biking, hiking, skiing, or scuba diving. He’s also passionate about service, both in his local church and through international medical mission trips.

We’re proud to have Dr. Young on the Summit Eye Associates team!
