Amberwell Hiawatha Celebrates Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month!

Medical ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique that uses sound waves to create detailed images of organs and tissues. It plays a key role in diagnosing and monitoring conditions across many specialties, including obstetrics, gynecology, cardiology, and oncology.

At Amberwell, our ultrasound team provides expert care through a wide range of exams—general, vascular, and cardiac, helping patients and providers get the answers they need for timely, accurate care.

Pictured are Kristin Rosenberger, Director of Non-Invasive Imaging, and Kamryn Shewmaker, Registered Staff Technologist, celebrating Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month in their Amberwell Ultrasound shirts.

Kristin holds multiple certifications (RVT, RDCS, RDMS, RT(R)(CT)) and performs vascular, cardiac, and general exams. Kamryn, a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), performs general and vascular exams. Team members not pictured are Kathy Kopf (RDMS, RVT) and Mattie Stowell (RDCS, RVT).

Her tips with breastfeeding were greatly appreciated along with her encouragement. Alex was great, giving great advice and encouragement along with her patience with my little ornery Owen. Amberwell Hiawatha Earns Gold-Level Award for Newborn Screening Excellence

Amberwell Hiawatha Maternal Care and Amberwell Hiawatha Laboratory Services have earned Gold-Level recognition from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) for excellence in newborn screening.

This distinction honors hospitals, birth centers, and midwives across Kansas that meet the highest standards for accuracy and timeliness in newborn screening—an essential step in identifying conditions that can impact a baby’s long-term health.

The recognition highlights the collaboration between Amberwell Hiawatha Maternal Care, led by Chelsea James, RN, Director of Maternal Care, and Amberwell Hiawatha Laboratory Services, led by Amy Elliott, Director of Laboratory Services. Together, their teams demonstrated strong attention to detail and consistent follow-through in every step of the newborn screening process.

“The Gold-level recognition highlights the hard work and accuracy of our team in providing timely, high-quality newborn screenings,” said Chelsea James, RN.

Amberwell Health is proud of the Hiawatha Maternal Care and Laboratory Services teams for their commitment to excellence and for ensuring every newborn receives the best possible start in life.

Compared to my birthing experience and stay 14 years ago, I can honestly say the quality of care was top notch.

This was the best experience we've had between all of our children. The staff were all amazing.

Hanah and Morgan were very sweet and hands on during labor. Alex was so sweet and great with the care of our baby. Emily took great care of me during and after delivery. She was very in tune and talked me through every step of the way. They all took into consideration feeding times and resting times for my baby and me.

They explained everything needed to where I could understand and rarely left me without needing to ask questions. Everything down to our dinner rolls from our candlelight dinner was great!
