This photo really captured my attention. Yes, it could be photoshopped but something about it screams legitmate to me.

Here's the text that came with it:

"So this was taken about 13 years ago on a creek bank down in Covington County Alabama. Someone asked who was our extra friend 🤷🏻‍♀️ Tell me what you see when you see it please. And yes 13 years ago it probably was taken on a Nokia phone lol"

I'm not sure who the op was.

What do you think? I'd really like to know.

What do you think? Haunted or not?

The Wolf Man (1941)
70 minutes. Rated R
Directed By: George Waggner

Starring: Lon Chaney Jr., Bela Lugosi, Claude Rains, Evelyn Ankers, Maria Ouspenskaya, Ralph Bellamy, Patric Knowles, Warren William, Fay Helm, Forrester Harvey

"Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright".

The Wolf Man is easily Universal's best monster movie. Lon Chaney Jr does a wonderful job portraying the tortured Larry Talbot. The film is beautifully shot, and it oozes with atmosphere, a trait Universal was known for back in the day. The special effects were created by make up legend Jack Pierce and for the time, was very convincing. The score is haunting and very atmospheric. A true classic and one of Universal's best.

Rating: 🐺🐺🐺🐺🐺 out of 5 werewolves

Movie Tidbits:

* The Wolf Man was not the first werewolf filmed Universal made. It was preceded 6 years earlier with 1935's Werewolf of London.

* It took almost 10 hours to create the transformation scenes.

* In Curt Siodmak's original script for the film, whether or not Lawrence Talbot really underwent a physical transformation to a werewolf or if the transformation simply occurred in his mind was left ambiguous. The Wolf Man was never to appear onscreen. Ultimately, the studio determined that Talbot's transformation into a werewolf would be more appealing to the audience and more profitable.

* The "wolf" that Larry Talbot fights with was actually Lon Chaney Jr's own German Shepherd.

* The Wolf Man battled a bear in one scene, but unfortunately, the bear ran away during filming. The scene was cut from the movie. What few scenes were filmed were put into the theatrical trailer.

Sleepaway Camp (1983)
84 mins. Rated R
Directed By: Robert Hiltzik

Starring: Felissa Rose, Jonathan Tiersten, Christopher Collet, Mike Kellin, Karen Fields, Katherine Kamhi, Paul DeAngelo, Thomas E. Van Dell, Loris Sallahian, John E. Dunn, W***y Cuskin, Desiree Gould, Owen Hughes, Robert Earl Jones, Susan Glaze, Amy Baio

It goes without saying that Sleepaway Camp is one of the most notorious slasher films of the 80's. It is a cult classic and is revered by many slasher fans. I admit that Sleepaway Camp has a lot to offer with nasty murders, quirky characters, one of the best camp set atmospheres in the sub-genre, and of course that WTF ending. Unfortunately, when the cook makes the "baldies" comment, it completely takes me out of the film and the perks aren't enough to save it for me. The cheesy, over-acting doesn't help either. While Sleepaway Camp does have it's strong points, for me, it ultimately falls short due to it's unnecessary usage of pe******ia, which leaves me feeling dirty every time I try to watch it. -Tommy ☠️

Rating: 🔪🔪🔪 out of 5 knives.

Movie Tidbits:

The Haunted Road
~~Part 2

In this second part of our Payne Road series we will tell you one of the most common and popular stories connected with the road.

The tale goes that there was a farmer who lived on the road named Edward Payne back in the 1800s. He supposedly murdered his entire family.

There are a few variations of this story out there. By far the most popular one involves him tying up his wife and brutally murdering each of their children in front of her one by one. When he’s killed all the kids except for the baby his wife managed to escape! She grabs their baby and runs out of the house with her husband hot on her trail!

Unfortunately, he catches up to them quickly on the small bridge just down the road - machete in hand! Then, not unlike the ending of the original Friday the 13th movie, he quickly lops off his wife’s head!

And the baby? He dropped his youngest and last living child down the farm well! He then hung himself from a nearby tree.

To this day, the headless wife is seen on the bridge (or the spot where it was years ago) as well as his body being spotted swinging from a tree along the road. In addition, many hear the ghostly cries of a baby coming from the well…

Although this folk tale has become a popular one, it is just that – a folk tale. However like most old stories, there is a grain of truth from where it likely originated.

Even though Edward Payne did exist there is no evidence of any mass murder fitting this description on Payne Road. However, only a couple of miles away as the crow flies, a horrific family mass murder did occur. The local papers of the time document it.

Nearby a man named Charlie Lawson did indeed slaughter nearly his entire family on Christmas day, 1929. The oldest son survived as he was in town that day. Mr. Lawson, like in the folk story – then killed himself as well. But more on that later!

Below you will find a photo of the old farmhouse that once stood on Payne Rd. Unfortunately it was accidentally burned down by vandals years ago.

Next week in part 3, I will tell another tale connected with the haunted road! Until then happy haunting!

The Haunted Road – Part 1

- A new series by The Eerie Descent

If you are a fan of ghost stories and urban legends, you may have heard of this spooky place. Just north of Winston Salem, NC, there is a local paranormal hotspot. Once upon a time it was called Payne Road but sometime in the 80's the name of the haunted section was changed to discourage vandals.

This long, winding road is infamous for it’s terrifying tales and ghostly encounters that have been passed down through generations. Teenagers still dare each other to ride down it at night but even during the daylight hours it has a palpable eerie vibe.

There are a number of legends and stories connected with the rural roadway. In this multi-part series we will tell many of them as well as discuss the numerous true crime reports that have happened on the road over the last century or so.

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of why this area has such an enormous paranormal presence. So buckle up and ride with me through the tales of Payne Road!

Next week: In part 2 we’ll discuss the legend of the farmer who supposedly murdered his entire family on the road. Sadly this tale is connected to a similar and very real true crime nearby.

Happy haunting till next time!

Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988)
88 Mins. Rated PG-13
Directed By: Steven Chiodo

Starring: Grant Cramer, Suzanne Synder, John Vernon, John Allen Nelson, Michael S. Siegel, Peter Licassi, Royal Dano, Charles Chiodo, Christopher Titus

Killer Klowns From Outer Space is a low budget, ultra-campy, cult classic, with great practical effects. It reminds me of a 50's invasion/creature feature, and there's so much fun to be had here. In addition to the Killer Klowns, our protagonists run afoul of balloon animals that bark, cotton candy cocoons, man-eating shadow puppets, popcorn bazookas, acid pies, and all sorts of zaniness. Just wait until you see Jojo the Klownzilla! KKFOS also has one of the catchiest theme songs of all time, "Killer Klowns From Outer Space", by the punk rock band The Dickies. Everything about this movie clicks and it still holds up today. It's the ultimate late night popcorn flick! So do yourself a favor and seek out KKFOS. You won't be disappointed. -Tommy ☠️

Rating: 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡 out of 5 Klowns

Movie Tidbits:

* The budget was $1.8 million and it grossed $15.6 million (US box office)
* It was filmed in Watsonville, California and the Santa Cruz Boardwalk
* A proposed "requel" titled "Return Of The Killer Klowns From Outer Space in 3D" was planned in 2012, but was delayed and never happened.
* In 2016, Steven Chiodo, in an interview, said a television series, instead of a movie was in the works, but it never materialized.
* In 2018, the SyFy channel was in talks to make one or more sequels. There's been no word since.
