KI - High Point
The High Point facility began life as Arthur Gross Industries (AGI) in the late 1960's. In mid-1970 AGI was purchased by the Krusch family, who operated the plant until 1998, when it was purchased by KI. The 100,000 square foot facility is located in High Point, North Carolina in the area known as Piedmont Triad. Making up the Triad are the cities of High Point, Winston-Salem and Greensboro. High Point is historically known as the furniture capital of the world. Each year, 2 different week-long furniture markets are held and attended by over 100,000 furniture buyers and suppliers from around the world. Furniture manufacturing is still king, although Chinese imports have greatly reduced the impact of local residential furniture companies. Due to cost cutting and lean, the High Point plant remains strong and growing in the light of that trend. Since the acquisition of High Point, the plant and product line has seen more than double digit sales growth. Most of what is produced falls in two core markets, college/university and healthcare. Product lines include Perth, Flex, Briar, Three, Arissa, and Soltice in healcare and Cody, Bantam, Mesa, Lola, Kurv and Ivey to name a few in the university seating line. We also offer a complete line of benches, ottomans and tables, including Briar and Orlo that help round out the offering. Most of the furniture is solid wood and includes detailed upholstery including many in leather. KI-High Point is a one-shift operation which includes typical office functions but also includes pre-sales, marketing and design and development departments. Recent transformations reorganized layout to support lean initiatives and JIT inventory efforts. The plant received ISO certification in 2006 and will be known as KI High Point. In 2008, another milestone in High Point history was achieved when the plant shipped over $30,000,000 for the first time. The facility has also been recognized by the State of North Carolina as a significant contributor to the economic growth of the Triad region.
