Measles cases nationwide are at a new high, particularly among the unimmunized and the under-immunized, with potentially devastating consequences. Children should receive routine MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccines at 1 year and 4 years of age. If you reside in or are traveling to an area of measles outbreak with an infant under the age of 1 year, talk with your pediatrician. Your infant may be eligible for an earlier vaccine.

“Measles is a bad bug,” APHA CEO Georges C. Benjamin, MD, tells CNN. During a usual outbreak, “money would flow, resources would come in, there would be a big national educational campaign, and quite frankly, a large vaccination campaign across all areas of our country.”

If you feel your child is facing toxic stress, talk with your pediatrician. There are ways to prevent toxic stress as well as ways to limit the detrimental effects of toxic stress.

Children can feel stress from everyday experiences, like trying new things. Usually, this kind of stress doesn't last long.
