What are your hopes for having your art in Hillsboro? Can you share your thoughts and experiences that led you to wanting to have an installation at the Rio Abajo Rio!!

“Meet people, let people see the beauty I see in the world and get some expøsure for my start.”- Sarah Perry

Hello, my name is Sarah Perry, and this is my second art show. In this collection, I am highlighting my love and inspiration drawn from African art and culture.
My connection to Africa began during my first year of high school. I was deeply drawn to animals, nature, African people, their artistic designs, and the spiritual elements woven into their culture. In art class, I spent time researching African traditions through library books and early internet resources. I would study images and then create my own interpretations—developing original designs inspired by what I saw.
At the time, I was also influenced by stories like The Lion King and Tarzan, which further sparked my imagination and curiosity. My passion extended beyond painting—I even designed an African-themed wedding concept for a floral class project, imagining every detail through that cultural lens.
Through my research and creative exploration, I fell in love with the richness of African culture—the bold patterns, vibrant colors, and breathtaking landscapes. These elements continue to inspire my work today.
I hope my art brings you a sense of that beauty and inspiration, and that you enjoy experiencing this collection as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Thank you for your support.
— Sarah Perry

Back Back Back.

Schedule by appointment abajorio.com

Someone asked me yesterday how my back was.

I was thrown off guard cause nobody asks me how my back is I usually ask others.

I responded “good, how’s yours?!”

“Hasn’t hurt since I last got a massage before you left town!”

Let’s get that Rio flowing….

Rio Abajo Rio was honored to host so many talented artists, musicians, poets, authors, designers, dreamers, artisan bakers, chefs and community builders. All so inspirational and moving this year. You all keep the Rio flowing.

Thank you to all that came out to share their creative joy and journey with us at the Rio Abajo Rio.

What I’m gleaning from this years events is the deep desire for us to come together. The importance of gathering. One artist left us with the message- community “Come, unity!”That’s the strongest thing we can do is unite and create something meaningful while knowing everything is temporary. Present moment is an offering and supports the spirit of a community. Keep going, keep making art, keep making connections, giving support to eachother where we can and love your neighbors, keep building. Keep on keeping on.

As most of you know, I’ve been called to take a pilgrimage for three months. I have a few spots left for massage before I head out on December 28th. So get online and schedule.

The Rio Abajo Rio will still have events, pop-ups and art exhibits. Stay tuned. The steward of this land will be here in charge while I’m away. I grew up with Jordan here in Hillsboro and we are combining our creative juices, just like we did as children to pull this act off. She’s coming home to take a three month sabbatical while I’m away and she will be here.

For my massage clients, I am leaving you all with a list of professional practitioners with a variety of offerings as continued support to reach your wellness goals.
