Please join us in welcoming our new Criticalist and Medical Director, Dr. Barbara Maton!

Dr. Maton was born and raised in Florida, where she also attended Undergraduate and Veterinary Schools. She obtained a Bachelor in Biology from the University of North Florida, and her DVM from the University of Florida CVM in 2006. Her interests and passion for emergency and critical care first sprouted during her work as a veterinary nurse in both an emergency hospital and in the UF CVM ICU. After veterinary school, she pursued a rotating specialty internship with an emergency focus at SouthPaws Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Center in 2007.

She then moved to Pittsburgh, PA where she worked as an ER doctor at a private practice for two years under the supervision of four emergency and critical care (ECC) specialists. Dr. Maton’s passion for ECC flourished, so she stayed on to complete her residency in ECC in 2012. She then moved to Delaware and spent a year to help pioneer a critical care service at a previously established veterinary referral hospital. She then moved on to serve five years as an ECC specialist and medical leader at an established veterinary referral hospital in NJ. Her clinical and research interests include trauma, electrolyte derangements, anticoagulant therapies, and CPCR medicine.

Outside of work, Dr. Maton enjoys spending time with her family— especially her husband, toddler, and new baby! She also enjoys her pets (including a sweet and goofy Labrador, 2 crazy cats,
a strong-willed bunny, and 8 chickens), cooking, and gardening. Someday she hopes to resume her active hobbies: foreign travel, running, cycling, and swimming.
