“Do I really need a breastfeeding class before baby arrives?”
As an IBCLC, my answer is simple: preparation matters ❤️
Breastfeeding is often described as “natural,” but that doesn’t always mean it comes naturally. Both parent and baby are learning something new together.
Taking a prenatal breastfeeding class helps families:
✨ Learn what normal newborn feeding actually looks like
✨ Understand how to know if baby is getting enough
✨ Learn positioning, latch basics, and feeding cues
✨ Prepare for pumping, bottles, and returning to work
✨ Build confidence BEFORE the sleep deprivation begins
✨ Know when to ask for help early if challenges arise
One of the biggest benefits? Realistic expectations.
Many parents worry they are doing something wrong when babies feed frequently, cluster feed, or want to be held constantly. Learning what is normal can make those first few weeks feel much less overwhelming.
Breastfeeding doesn’t require perfection—it requires support, education, and confidence.
The best time to prepare for feeding your baby is before your baby arrives 💕
