Tomorrow evening- The Hingham Health Department is bringing a QPR Training on Su***de Prevention to be held at the Hingham Public Library from 630p-8p.

QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) Gatekeeper Training for Su***de Prevention is a 1 ½ hour educational program designed to teach lay and professional "gatekeepers" the warning signs of a su***de crisis and how to respond. Gatekeepers can include anyone who is strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of su***de (e.g., parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, coaches, caseworkers, police officers). The process follows three steps: (1) Question the individual's desire or intent regarding su***de, (2) Persuade the person to seek and accept help, and (3) Refer the person to appropriate resources. Trainees receive a QPR booklet and wallet card as a review and resource tool that includes local referral resources.

Ages 16 +. Registration is NOT required. Please email HealthDirector@Hingham-ma.gov with any questions and if you would like a printed certification.

Date: Tuesday June 6th
Time: 6:30 – 8:00 pm
Where: Hingham Public Library, Whiton Room, 66 Leavitt St, Hingham MA 02043

Our work is not done yet. We have to be sure to all get out and VOTE tomorrow!
In 1991, a Hingham override was defeated at the polls by just 2 votes, after being approved at Town Meeting. The result was 5% budget cuts across all municipal and school departments.
Let's make sure that doesn't happen again.
POLLS WILL BE OPEN FROM 8A-8P TOMORROW 4/29/23!!

Hingham NEEDS an override. An override like this recently failed in Newton so we MUST NOT assume that this vote will pass in Hingham. Please come to Town Meeting on 4/24 and to vote of 4/29 to ensure that we INVEST in our town.
If you're wondering what will happen if the override fails, here are some examples: Elimination of 46 teaching/staff position in the schools, elimination of 19 town employees including the elimination of the crisis clinician and social worker (what?!), reduced maintenance of roads, buildings, parks, fields, elimination of after school clubs and most electives in the Middle School, elimination of Freshman sports in the Highschool. The list goes on and on. Many of us chose Hingham as a place to put down our roots because of the sense of community and the beauty. Let's vote on the override to ensure those features are maintained! use this link to learn a bit more https://hinghamschools.org/about/business-and-support-services/operational-override/
