Let’s talk about candida. I talk to a lot of people about this one.
Candida is a type of yeast that naturally lives in the body, mostly in the gut, mouth, and skin. In small amounts, it is completely normal. The problem starts when it begins to overgrow. 🥴
When candida gets out of balance, it can start to affect the body in ways people don’t always connect back to the gut.
You might notice things like sugar cravings, bloating after eating, brain fog, fatigue, skin irritation, recurring yeast issues, or just feeling off. It can also make it harder for your body to absorb nutrients which can leave you feeling run down.
Candida thrives on sugar and highly processed foods. It also tends to show up more after antibiotics, long periods of stress, or when the gut is already out of balance.
So how do we begin to calm it down?
Start with what you’re feeding it
Cut back on sugar, white flour, and processed foods as much as you can. Focus on real, whole foods like clean proteins, healthy fats, and vegetables. This can make a big difference.
Support your gut!
Adding in fermented foods like sauerkraut or kefir can help bring balance back. A simple probiotic can also be helpful for some people.
Natural herbs like oregano, garlic, pau d’arco, and caprylic acid are often used to help keep candida in check. Teas with things like ginger or cinnamon can also gently support the body.
Don’t forget your lifestyle. Stress, lack of sleep, and constant overwhelm all play a role in gut health. Supporting your nervous system is just as important as what you eat.
If you feel like your body has been trying to tell you something and you’re not sure where to start, we’re here to help guide you.
