The teenage years are often an exciting yet problematic developmental phase in one’s life. Teens witness major physical and emotional changes as they pave their way into the adult stage. While this growth phase is often characterized by curiosity and self-discovery, it can be a trying period for millions. Among these challenges they face is childhood trauma, which can exacerbate personality disorder.

Childhood trauma can have several negative consequences, often long-term. These effects include worsened mental health and borderline personality disorder. Medical experts have linked childhood trauma to personality disorder, revealing that the former can trigger the latter. Patients with this condition exhibit signs such as emotional dysregulation, suicidal thoughts, and impulsive decisions. The National Institutes of Health survey mentions about 77% of adolescents with personality disorders experienced childhood trauma in abuse, which later developed risky behaviors. This shows the magnitude of childhood trauma’s impacts on mental health.

The connection between childhood trauma and personality disorders is complicated. Research confirms that personality disorder manifests in early adolescence.

Healthy relationships begin when someone provides emotional support and encouragement to the significant other or children to facilitate growth. It happens when you love the person. Provided both people encourage each other to grow, then there’s no harm. But it’s an unhealthy relationship if your support and encouragement are detrimental to your psychological, financial, and social well-being. It is called codependency.

Codependency is a dysfunctional dynamism that benefits one party. While it’s common in romantic relationships, people suffering from substance use disorder are also caught in this unhealthy relationship web. The codependency rate is skyrocketing, and given that addiction affects 61.2 million people above 12 based on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration data, it will only get higher. This blog delves into what codependency in addiction means, its signs, impacts, and how to overcome it.

BNI Treatment Centers offer adolescent mental health treatment in the Los Angeles area.

Adolescence is a delicate stage that needs special care from parents. This stage is quite sensitive and can influence a child’s adulthood. Social media is becoming an essential part of this stage, and if misused, the effects can be devastating. Scientific studies showed that adolescents aged 14 – 21 have shown increased rates of depression, with an increase rate of 89.1% between 2009 and 2017. This survey also showed that this increase started after the advent of social media and the Great Recession. This proves that social media affects mental health.

So, grey area drinkers are not alcohol addicts; however, they consume more alcohol than what has been prescribed in the dietary guidelines for alcohol consumption.

While grey area drinking is notably different from alcohol dependence, there are adverse side effects associated with grey area drinking. These negative effects are often unnoticeable, so many do not seek help as they fail to see the pitfalls in their current level of consumption. A grey area drinker might assume nothing is wrong because they don’t show symptoms that alcohol dependants experience. In this article, you’ll learn about the signs of grey area drinking, its adverse effects, and how to avoid it.
