Thank you for taking the time to visit my personal page!
I want to take this opportunity for you to get to know Karim Jimerson.
My professional career started 17 years right out of high school where I attended American Career College to become a Certified Medical Assistant in 2000. Four years after that I decided to move in a slightly different direction where I attended Maxine Waters Adult school in 2004. I became a Certified Nursing Assistant. I enjoyed my time interacting with patients. I soon discovered that I wanted to do even more than my current capacity allowed. In 2006 I attended Career Colleges of America where I’m in my current license as a License Vocational Nurse.
I took the opportunity to work in various areas of care such as Sub-acute care, Med/Surg, ICU, Psychiatry (adolescent to elderly), Medical clinics, Hospital care and Substance Abuse. I found Mental Health to be my “specialty” as it fit my personality. I’m very sensitive to the needs of those who suffer with the inability to control emotional changes. Simply because society continues to believe “you can change” if you want to. I walk with other clinicians who educate others as to how real mental health and substance abuse is.
I have been involved in providing interventions for 10 years. Working with individuals and families that deal with mental health and substance abuse became something that was a normal practice for me as a nurse. Being there to teach families and the patient/client about whats going on and how to deal with it was a necessity in providing clinical care. I have been able to successfully convince patients/clients to go into treatment. Families feeling at ease because they now under the process and their role in the process.
As a clinician I learned humility. I learned how important it is to remove myself, my thoughts and my beliefs to step into someone else’s world. I studied Emotional Intelligence for many years. Lots of self-inventory to become a better clinician. Use of Motivational Interviewing in personal and professional settings and just a strong understanding of human behavior has helped me to evolve to the clinician I am today. By nature I love to inform and teach. I take any opportunity when there is a teachable moment. I believe that when one is equipped with knowledge and understanding they are more likely to navigate their life with greater success than one who is under informed. Patience is truly a virtue and as one who has spent years honing that virtue it makes a world of a difference in the outcome to a situation your involved in. I pride myself in my ability to be intuitive, observant and a problem solver.
My mission as a medical clinician is to educate others in health and wellness. Many suffer because of a lack of knowledge & understanding. And as the information is vast and abundantly available many still do not know how to grasp it. It’s like a tall tree with fruit. Some know how to climb and get it and some are fearful and don’t know how to go about obtaining that fruit. So that is where we clinicians step in to slow those who don’t know how to climb the tree the skills they need to develop so they can be like others who can tackle complex problems and come up with a sound resolution to their challenge.
