Operating as usual
Meeting your baby for the first time is so magical ๐
Someone is very good at tummy time at 3 weeks old! ๐
Postpartum Doula Life! Teaching baby wearing, belly massages and nail clipping ๐ฅฐ Baby Halen is just the sweetest!
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐
Sometimes, you just need your doula to hold your hand while you squeeze theirs! ๐ This was from my birth in 2018 with my son AFTER he was born. I had more bleeding than usual, no epidural and they started me on Pitocin to help minimize hemorrhaging. It was this moment that I realized pitocin contractions were so much worse than natural labor contractions. Add in very rough fundal massages every 15 minutes, I just wanted it to be all over with in this picture. Iโm thankful my doula stayed by my side so I wasnโt alone and my husband could hold our baby.
My books for the rest of 2022 are CLOSED!
As my family and I gear up for an upcoming PCS in 2023, I will have limited availability for January-March and then my books for labor support in Hawaii will be permanently closing. I will be available for hourly postpartum care as well as lactation support April-June.
My beautiful postpartum client! Nearing the end of her pregnancy and soaking up these last couple weeks before baby comes earth-side ๐
๐ swimming or relaxing in the water whether itโs the ocean, pool or tub, can be a great way to relieve aching muscles and ligaments in pregnancy!
Happy Labor Day! Sending all my clients positive labor vibes ๐๐ patiently waiting to meet these babies! ๐คฐ๐ผโจ
Finally after months, I am now 1 of 4 approved doulas on Oahu! If you have any questions about Tricare Doula Coverage, please send a message or email me at [email protected] ๐ค
Happy !! ๐๐คฑ๐ผ wether you breastfed for a couple days, a few months, a couple years, or exclusively pumped, itโs certainly not easy! Give yourself all the credit because you are doing/did your best ๐
I delivered my Belly Bud on July 23rd!! ๐๐
If you have emailed or messaged me, I will not be responding to messages until the weekend. Thank you for your patience while I recover this week! ๐ฅฐ
Hello Little One ๐โจ
Itโs always so special getting to see Mom and Dad take in every detail of their new baby they just welcomed into this world.
Hands and Knees WITH an EPIDURAL! Itโs a common misconception that once you get an epidural, you have to stay on your back the remainder of your labor and birth. That is NOT TRUE. You may need help from the nurse staff and your partner but as long as you are able to move your legs a little, being able to labor and give birth in this position is totally possible. ๐ค
Happy 1st Birthday Finn! ๐๐
Teaching newborn care with my clients today โบ๏ธ love partners who like to take photos!!
Happy International Midwives Day ๐ Having a midwife for one of my own births and getting to be present for the births of other babies born with the helping hands of midwives is truly special.
This sweet girl is almost 4 months old! It feels like it was just yesterday that I was spending the first couple weeks of her life helping her adjust to being outside of the womb and helping her momma recover ๐ I love catching up with these babies!
Cesarean section is the only surgery where five layers of tissue are opened and the mother is expected to stand up six hours later, responsible for one more person(or more), not to mention the intense uterus contractions, product of the stimulation of the mammary glands, release of oxytocin... etc..
Newborn photoshoots are becoming my favorite! Love helping my best friend with these teeny tiny babies ๐
โA C-section requires
courage. It is a show
of bravery, sacrifice,
and mothering in its
purest form. It's the
willingness to lay
down your body and
risk your life so that
your child might be
born; that your child
might live.โ
โจ
Itโs Cesarean Section awareness month! To all the mommas who birthed their beautiful babies through C-section, do not forget how bad ass and strong you are. ๐ช๐ผ๐

Happy World Doula Week!! ๐๐๐คฐ๐ผ
Real. Raw. Labor. Taking challenge and sharing some more real and raw moments from my labor with my second baby. Looking back at these photos and seeing how hands on my partner was is EVERYTHING. I felt so supported. Too often we are shown only the โprettyโ side of labor and birth but that is just not the case. Birth is hard work. Do you have any raw photos or videos from your birth? I encourage you to feel empowered and share them!! ๐
The moment you look into your babyโs eyes for the first time and they look right into yours ๐ Welcome to the world baby Jude!
โEnduring a C-section is
not "taking the easy
way out." Nothing
about scrapping your
birth plan, having your
organs pulled from
your body, missing the
moment your baby
enters the world, or
recovering from
abdominal surgery, is
easy.โ Welcome to the world sweet Emma! ๐
Birth is messy, but it is also beautiful and very rewarding to finally have your baby earth side ๐ซ

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! ๐
As 2021 comes to an end, I want to look back on all the babies and families I served throughout the year ๐ Iโve had a few challenges pop up but got back up and didnโt let it slow me down. I cannot wait to see what 2022 brings! โจ
I absolutely love what I do! โจ Thank you Emma Brown Photography for capturing me in action when I accompany you to your photoshoots!
Happy Thanksgiving! ๐๐ฆ๐ฝ
An update on Tricare Doula Coverage! ๐
โThis demo recognizes the benefits a Doula can have both emotionally and physically for a pregnant person, their family, and their birth outcomes. It will begin 1 January 2022 and continue for 5 years. When those 5 years are up, the program will be re-evaluated.
TriCare Prime and TriCare Select beneficiaries who are currently stationed in the Continental United States are eligible for Labor Support and Lactation Consultations. Beneficiaries must be 20+ weeks pregnant, receiving ongoing prenatal care with a TriCare approved physician and must deliver the baby with a TriCare approved physician, with emergency cases possibly being an exception.
The Doula may charge TriCare directly, or the beneficiary may pay out of pocket and then file for a reimbursement. The coverage will include 6 (total) prenatal and postpartum meetings (max charge of $46 each) and 1 event of continuous labor support (max charge of $690).
Of course, TriCare has set some prerequisites for Doulas before they are able to become TriCare approved:
- Certified with a TriCare approved organization
- Attend a minimum of 24 hours of training that meets TriCare regulations
- Attend a breastfeeding course
- Attend a Childbirth Education Course
- Have attended minimum of 3 births, in the last 3 years. 2 of them must be vaginal births.
- Provide prenatal and postpartum support for at least 1 family in the last 3 years.
- Infant, child, and adult CPR Certification
- License or certification for applicable states
- NPI numberโ Photo and words by Utz Doula Services
At this time, PG Doula Services LLC is not eligible for TriCare coverage but I have sent an email and will update everyone if I do become eligible to provide my services for those looking to use Tricare. Mahalo! ๐บ
Halloween is around the corner! Check out these dilation pumpkins!! ๐๐
It was set up by midwives at the Royal Oldham Hospital in Lancashire, England as part of a pumpkin decorating competition.
Laboring in the tub in the HOSPITALโจ
Itโs very important to do your research and pick the provider thatโs best for you. But do you know you can do the SAME with the hospital youโll give birth at? After my first birth, I made sure to pick and choose wisely who I wanted my care team to be and the hospital I wanted. Looking up hospital and provider cesarean rates, induction rates, and other intervention rates MATTERS. Seeing what each hospital offers for laboring moms and what their policies are is also so so important.
Do you want to be able to labor freely with intermittent monitoring? Do you want to be able to labor in a tub for pain management? How many support persons am I allowed to have? Is my Doctor going to push an induction if labor is moving slowly? Am I only allowed to push on my back? These are all good questions every mom should ask themselves when deciding on a provider and hospital. You will always have a say in your care and you are in control. Never settle for less. Do your research and find a doctor or midwife that will best meet your needs, whether itโs in a hospital, birth center or a home birth. If you choose a hospital, make sure you go with one that will be able to best accommodate all of your wishes ๐คฐ๐ผ๐
Head over to my Instagram to see photos of my second birth I just posted where I mention this is exact topic!
This chunkster is almost 2 weeks old! I feel like his birth was just yesterday. ๐ he was born a healthy 10lbs!
