Sacral Chakra - Svadhisthana

The Sacral Chakra is your passion and pleasure center and it is located in the pelvic area. While the Root Chakra is satisfied with survival, the 2nd chakra seeks pleasure and enjoyment.

The second chakra is the center of feeling, emotion, pleasure, sensuality, intimacy, and connection. This chakra is also connected to creativity. When it is blocked out creative selves seem to have hit creative road blocks. When balanced we are able to create freely. I’d also like to add that an over active Svadhisthana can result in too much creative energy, like I once experienced lol. I couldn’t stop my desire to make things for a couple of weeks and then realized that my second chakra was over active and imbalanced.

Kundalini Yoga ... many people think that yoga is religion. It is not. Kundalini yoga teaches us to honor ourselves. To honor the divine within us and the "Universe" within.
This yoga is for householders ... the people who aren't in isolation meditating in the mountains. The ones who have not given up all the modern-day activities to be a Monk.
By connecting to ourselves we connect to others and all that is around us. Practice every day and build a better universe within!

Ground yourself ... it’s so important to take time for grounding! A simple light walk in nature, getting in the water (lake or beach) or sitting under a tree helps. Also eating is grounding, so if you feel a little flighty take a moment to sit for a healthy snack.

Today showed me how much meditation has helped me change how I react and act in situations. On my way to work I get to my car and find that my back windows are slightly down and water has gotten inside. Slightly frustrated by this but I’ll just dry it and I’ll be ok. Driving to work about 5 minutes later and a car tries to lane change into my lane and side swiped my passenger side. The old me probably would have been slightly hysterical or very emotional. My car just made a year old lol and she’s my first new car I’ve ever owned. But I found that I was rather calm even though I was upset that my new car got hit, I was more glad that everyone was ok. Also the couple who hit me were apologetic and sincere but in a rush, I felt calm and thoughtful. I asked if any of them were injured and asked if we should call the police. We exchanged info and were on our way.
I thought about how calm I was feeling and had to thank myself, I’m grateful to have started meditation and Yoga! I’ve been able to handle things that are beyond my control much better. It’s so liberating to say the least. I also figured how fortunate I am, I mean I do Kriyas to burn past karma and if this wasn’t a karma day I don’t know what is lol. With that said, if this is the extent of burning my past karma ... I’m blessed and welcome the lessons I’ve learned today. I had a few of them wrapped up in one day. I’m grateful for the lessons today, yesterday and tomorrow. Each day I’m working on learning and growing. Thank you, thank myself and Sat Nam all!

Something I learned much later in my life ... I never understood this until I was older. Now I understand what this means and have so much empathy for those suffering in which ever battles they face. Take time to be kind and not look at someone from a place of judgement but from a place of love. You’ll find that you can’t change people but you can change the way you look at them.

Sat Nam,
Yin and Yang, male and female, sun and moon. There needs to be a beautiful balance as we carry both energies within us. Also understanding how these energies work alone and how they work together is fascinating. My own children showed me a classic case of male energy versus female energy, as I listened to them I laughed and told them about the difference and how they will bare witness to this very thing in the future. My Kundalini Yoga journey as the student and now the teacher has brought me to realize who I am, what I am and where I am. I’ve learned to love myself deeply, love those around me deeply, to take breath before I react. Kundalini has also taught me a tremendous amount of compassion and the balance of energies. This image shows me so much about life in a simple image, there is so much being said. I would love to hear your thoughts and how you interpret this image in your own lives.

I never knew that I was a chest breather until I started yoga! I was a smoker for over 20 years and realize how short my breaths were. I couldn’t barely hold my breath for 30 seconds without feeling it. With work I’ve been able to expand my ! I’m forever grateful for yoga and breath work and even more thankful to myself for showing up!

Working on balancing poses after a light warm up Asana flow is my favorite. I love free flowing when I’m feeling spontaneous!

People think yoga is about perfect poses but it’s the journey that is important. I fall out of balancing poses and shake when I’m holding lunges. But when that pose clicks and I feel the alignment and I have no thoughts, just being in the present moment, that is what makes all the work so rewarding!

I encourage you all to get on your mats, even if it’s for 15 minutes a day, and be in your breath. Let all the worries and every day thoughts go. Release your stress with each breath!

Tree Pose - Vrsksasana
Benefits of this pose ...
Strengthens the hips, quads, hamstrings and knees.

Tree pose improves neuromuscular coordination.
Vrksasana improves balance, endurance and alertness.
Also known to help with anxiety since it takes concentration to balance on one leg during this pose.

This is one of my favorite poses! I find myself doing it casually through out the day. I think it’s the challenge of balance and focus that keeps me coming back for more. Being someone who suffered from PTSD any thing to help my anxiety is something I like to practice.

Disconnect! I often have to remind myself to disconnect. I used to catch myself on my social media getting consumed in everything being posted.

To disconnect from my electronic devices I started to do two things. Every morning when I wake up I would pick up my phone and start surfing. Literally as soon as my eyes opened. I would say it was to check for texts or missed calls. I stopped doing this. Now I wake up, freshen up, make my bed, drink a glass of water to boost my immune system, take my power beets and fiber. Then I’ll do some stretches or a sun salutation. After I am in my own energy to start my day it is easier to stay in my energy.

In the evening I make sure to put my phone down at least 30 minutes prior to going to bed. I will read a book in place of surfing my phone.

A few simple changes in our routines can help us to disconnect regularly and be in our own space and energy. I encourage you all to try this. See how it works for you. Set small time frame goals and go from there.
